Mobile DPF Cleaning for Portico, Merseyside
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. No workshop, no filter coming off. A fitter drives out to your place across Portico, cleans the diesel particulate filter as it sits, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.
The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is agreed on the phone before anyone travels.
If the light is showing and the motor is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most drivers arrive here.
What to do when the DPF light is on
Not the unit, automatically. First thing to note. That light can come from plenty of faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with cleaning.
The use you do in the meantime tells. That is the other thing.
- Amber light, vehicle even now driving fine — a long steady run can even now clear it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth a try before you ring anything.
- Once the car is in limp mode, motoring will not reach it. The window has shut.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the moment to stop planning long drives and call.
Signs the motor has been showing you
Late news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for some time before it shows:
- power falling off, especially going uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they once did
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- stop/start without a word packing in
- the car smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on
That is not evidence by itself. Alongside the light, it is a fair bet the filter is loaded.
Clogged diesel particulate filters near Portico, and the reason
Portico is a residential suburb, and the day-to-day driving that belongs to one is the worst type for a DPF. Look at a typical week: Nutgrove Methodist Primary School and back, Uplands Close at a halt before the hour, a short hop to Co-op Food, a dash to Eccleston Park. Nothing there lasts long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. Soot that should burn off builds up instead.
Neither is a long way from Portico: under 3 miles to the M57, under 10 miles to Liverpool. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the journey that would clear a filter simply never happens.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
What limp mode means is the motor defending itself. The real problem is that a sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is capped.
Running it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works right up to a limit. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are beyond that line, and the filter needs cleaning rather than road work.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle round Portico
Nothing leaves the car. That catches out people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work is done around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, anywhere it can wait for two hours or so.
Nothing is touched until other faults are ruled out. That requires a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a check of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated hardware.
Then the clean. A cleaning solution is fed in through the access port on that car and spreads inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Badly blocked filters sometimes take a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has loosened. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Portico, with you along, or it goes where the car waits and the live data is read once done.
A second check proves the change, clears the warning light and logs anything still showing. Both read-outs are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
A clean cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a restriction that is not real
- the EGR valve jammed open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration running at all
- turbo failure, with oil reaching the filter
That is what the first check is for. When one of those proves the fault, you find out about it up front rather than once the money has gone for good.
Cutting the filter out is not a solution: without a working DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the term people search for, though nothing is swapped — your own filter is treated in place and returned into use. Two more worth noting.
The cost for DPF cleaning across Portico
A clean opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
The figure is settled over the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be honest. Two separate things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Portico itself, across at Brown Edge, or otherwise out across the WA postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says treatment will not work, you are not billed for treatment. What even so holds is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the diagnostic was run and the advice was given.
The work comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Portico if the light reappears inside that window.
Perfect service. I would recommend DPF Fixer to anyone. Turned up on time. Did a good job and a sensible price.
Liam was great very professional and understanding, put me at my ease and totally trustworthy. Great service and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend DPF FIXER to friends and family.
Really good service. Everything explained clearly. Pointed out some other engine issues to check out which was very helpful. Expensive compared to other companies but with the 28 day warranty I felt happy to pay to get the best service. Couldn't fault the engineer he was excellent.
Where we travel near Portico, and what we clean
Cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles — one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.
Our engineers are along Uplands Close most weeks, so Portico is hardly ever a detour, and the same run covers Brown Edge, Nutgrove and the spots out past Prescot. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so ring still from farther out around Merseyside.

Things Portico drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- Sometimes, if you get it in time and the motor has not dropped into limp mode. It needs a long run at motorway speed, not five minutes flat to Co-op Food and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — severely clogged filters sometimes require a second pass, which lengthens it.
- The cost around Portico — what is it?
- Treatment begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both shift the number, so we settle it on the phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- No. The motor wants a spot to stand for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. The regeneration can be run as a watched drive if you would prefer to come along.
- When can someone travel to Portico?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the schedule. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is open across the WA area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- Not on the mobile service — it is done where it is. Lifting a filter off or bolting one back on amount to anything work we do whichever way.
- The light comes back — then what?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Portico.
