Mobile DPF Cleaner

Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Port Talbot, Neath Port Talbot

The vehicle remains where it is — mobile DPF cleaning goes to it. The engineer turns up at your address over in Port Talbot and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned still on the motor, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you end up with the filter you came with.

The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is fixed on the phone before anyone travels.

Written for the state most callers are in: the light already on, the car short for power, and the job still to book.

What to check when the DPF light comes on

First thing: it is not automatically the DPF. A number of faults put the same light on the identical dashboard, which is why a visit opens with a diagnostic rather than with cleaning.

The use you do in the meantime counts. That is the second thing.

  • Amber light, vehicle still driving normally — a long steady run can still clear it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you book anything.
  • Once the vehicle is in limp mode, motoring will not reach it. The window has gone.
  • A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the stage to stop arranging long drives and ring.

The car has been showing you already

By the time the light arrives, things have generally been going wrong for weeks. It is belated news:

  • less power, especially going uphill
  • you see the revs never reach where they used to go
  • fuel use that is worse than it used to be
  • stop/start silently giving up
  • smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell inside

Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair bet.

What blocks diesel particulate filters round Port Talbot

Port Talbot is a coastal town, and the motoring that belongs to one is the worst type for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, Forge Road at a crawl at half past eight, five minutes to Tesco, the dash to Port Talbot Parkway — not one bit of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. Instead of burning off, the soot banks up.

Neither is a long way from Port Talbot: under a mile to the M4, under 10 miles to Swansea. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the run that would clear a filter hardly ever gets made.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it

The car is looking after itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. The real problem is that a long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is held down.

So the usual advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, up until it is not. The filter requires cleaning rather than driving once the vehicle has gone into limp mode.

Nothing leaves the car. That throws people. The DPF sits fitted where it is and the work happens around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, anywhere it can wait for two hours or so.

The ECU is read first, reporting soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a look over of sensor feeds, glow plugs and related parts, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.

After that comes the clean itself: solution in through the car's own entry point, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration cannot. Where the filter is badly blocked, expect a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has freed. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Port Talbot, with you present, or it runs where the car sits and the real-time data is checked after.

Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change proven, the light reset, anything still showing written down. Both read-outs come to you by email, so the numbers are on record.

Where treatment is not the answer

One thing is what treatment cures — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • temperature or pressure sensors flagging a block that is not there
  • EGR valves that jam open
  • the AdBlue system going wrong
  • worn glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever completes
  • a turbo passing oil through the filter

Finding that out is the first check's purpose. Where one of those proves the fault, you find out about it in advance rather than once the money has gone altogether.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you have is cleaned where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it gutted a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth knowing.

Prices for DPF cleaning around Port Talbot

The clean opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that comes with it.

The number is settled on the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be honest. What you own and where you are both change it: Port Talbot itself, out at Velindre, or farther out across the SA postcode area.

You are not asked to pay for a clean that the diagnostic says will not work. You even so pay that charge: someone came out, carried out the check and gave you the advice.

The job carries a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Port Talbot if the light returns inside that time.

Where we get to around Port Talbot, and what we clean

The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.

Port Talbot is hardly ever a special trip: engineers are out on Forge Road week in week out, and the same run covers Velindre, Aberavon and the places out past Goytre. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so even further out through Neath Port Talbot is nonetheless worth a ring, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Port Talbot itself

Port Talbot is a coastal town in south Wales, situated near the mouth of the Afan River and looking out over Swansea Bay. Port Talbot has a mix of industrial and residential areas, with terraced housing being a predominant feature of the town. Port Talbot sits at a relatively low elevation of around 12 metres above sea level, making it a coastal lowland town.

Things Port Talbot drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive clear it?
Soon enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Tesco and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
How long does the visit last?
It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily clogged filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
In Port Talbot, what does it cost?
Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the check and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both move the figure, so we settle it on the phone.
Must I be there in person?
No. The vehicle requires somewhere to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a watched drive instead.
Travelling to Port Talbot — how soon?
Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is typical. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is open across the SA area.
The filter — does it leave the vehicle?
It is cleaned where it stands, on the mobile service. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
Suppose the light returns?
Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Port Talbot.
