Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Polmear, Cornwall
With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. Your car will not be taken anywhere and the filter does not budge. An engineer arrives at your address over in Polmear, cleans the diesel particulate filter still on the motor and runs a DPF regeneration.
You'll be given a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
The light is showing and the motor is down on power — that is how we normally find people, and precisely what this page deals with.
DPF light on? What to do
It might not be the DPF in the end. That is the opening thing. That light can arise from several faults, not only one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with a clean.
The use you get in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.
- Worth a go before you ring anything: amber light, motor driving as normal, just one even run, no outlay.
- Vehicle already gone into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not reach it now.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it seen to if the interior reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
What the car has been warning you
Late news, the light. The symptoms generally mount for weeks before it appears:
- falling off on power, above all uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they used to
- fuel economy turning worse
- without a word, the stop/start gives up
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under hard acceleration
None of that is evidence on its own. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is there too.
Blocked diesel particulate filters round Polmear, and the reason
For a DPF, the least kind driving is the type you get in a rural hamlet such as Polmear. Look at an ordinary week: Tywardreath School and home, Polmear Hill at a standstill before half nine, a short hop to Co-op Food, a run to Par. Nothing there goes on long enough or gets hot enough to complete a regeneration. The soot collects rather than burning off.
Geography does not assist either. The M5 is over 50 miles from Polmear and Truro is under 25 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way often, whole weeks pass without the long unbroken run that would clear the filter alone.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer run
Limp mode is the vehicle defending itself. A proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode rules out: power held down, revs held down, no regeneration on offer.
So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is sensible advice, right until the day it is not. The far side of that point — limp mode — road work will not do it, and the filter wants treatment.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands round Polmear
Most people do not anticipate this detail: the filter remains. The job is done with the DPF still fixed to the motor — on your front, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can sit for a while.
A scan goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and related hardware, so other faults are cleared before a thing is cleaned.
Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the vehicle's own access point, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration cannot. Where the filter is heavily clogged, plan on a second pass.
A regeneration is next, burning off what the clean has lifted. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Polmear, with you there, or it is done where the vehicle sits and the live data is checked after.
A second scan confirms the change, puts out the warning light and lists anything still showing. Both reports are emailed over, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.
Where treatment is not the fix
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning answers. It will not help:
- a pressure sensor reporting a restriction that is not there
- EGR valves that jam open
- an AdBlue system problem
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration completing whatsoever
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are warned before any work begins, not after you have handed over, if it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no remedy. What gets searched for as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your existing filter is treated in place and goes back into service.
What DPF cleaning comes to across Polmear
A call-out charge applies whatever happens, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice passed on. Cleaning itself opens from £299.
The number is agreed by the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be honest. What you run and where you are both shift it: Polmear itself, out at Tywardreath, or further out in the PL postcode area.
You are not charged for treatment that the scan says will not work. The call-out charge even so applies, because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done.
If the light reappears inside that period, an engineer comes back out to Polmear — the clean includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
I was very worried about DPF issues with my Audi A4 and Nic from DPF fixer did a great job. In around an hour he did a test, flush and regen. He was very professional and helpful. Worth the money, I hope, if the issue doesn't come back.
The technician who came to clean the dpf did a great job, the clean didn't cure the problem but did put me in the right direction with the issue. Would recommend but hopefully won't need them again. Vehicle was a MAN tgl 8/150.
I had a DPF related emergency on Wednesday morning, by lunchtime it was sorted. The technician was knowledgeable, professional and personable. The DPF filter was cleaned, faults cleared, and the car drove brilliantly afterwards. Many thanks.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel around Polmear
The filter is treated in place on all of them: cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
The same run that keeps engineers on Polmear Hill most weeks takes in Polmear, Tywardreath, Kilhallon and the places beyond Par. Coverage runs UK-wide, so farther out through Cornwall is still worth a phone call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

What Polmear drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- It can, provided you catch it in time and limp mode has not begun. Ten minutes to Co-op Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, held for a while, will.
- Roughly how long does it run?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is heavily loaded.
- Across Polmear, what does it come to?
- The call-out charge covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; treatment itself starts from £299. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
- Have I got to be around?
- You need not stand with it — the motor just requires somewhere to wait for a couple of hours. Travel along if you like, and the regeneration turns into a watched drive.
- Getting to Polmear — how soon?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is usual. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is open across the PL area.
- The filter — does it leave the motor?
- Not on the mobile service — it is done where it sits. Lifting a filter off or putting one back on amount to anything work we do in either direction.
- The light returns — then what?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Polmear.
