The DPF is not always what is at fault, and that leads. Treatment is not where a visit begins. A scan is — several faults appear as the same warning.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then counts.
- Amber light, car even now driving fine — a long steady run can even now clear it by itself. Costs zero, and worth trying before you ring anything.
- Once the car is in limp mode, motoring will not shift it. The window has shut.
- Get it looked at rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
What the motor has been showing you
Symptoms have generally been mounting for a while before the light even appears. Last news, in other words:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb like they did
- worse fuel economy
- a stop/start that has silently given up
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gears
On its own, none of that is conclusive. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is there too.
What clogs diesel particulate filters near Plaidy
The motoring that comes with a residential suburb like Plaidy is the least kind kind for a DPF. The school run to Looe Primary Academy, Plaidy Lane at a crawl at half eight, five minutes to Co-op Food, the dash to Looe — not one bit of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Two things more worth knowing. Having the filter cut out is not a solution — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your original filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.
