Plaidy, Aberdeenshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Call-out DPF cleaning travels to the car. The technician arrives at your door in Plaidy and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned still on the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you came with.
You'll have a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
The light is already on and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we usually come across people, and what this page deals with.
What to try when the DPF light comes on
The unit is not automatically what is at fault, and that goes first. Plenty of faults put the identical light on the same dashboard, which is why a visit starts with a scan rather than with treatment.
The motoring you do in the meantime matters. That is the next thing.
- Worth a go before you call anything: amber light, motor driving fine, just one constant run, no outlay.
- That window has gone once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. A drive will not get there now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the stage to stop planning long drives and book it in.
Signs the motor has been showing you
Symptoms have usually been building for some time before the light so much as shows. Late news, in other words:
- less power, above all climbing uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they always did
- consumption that is worse than it was
- stop/start without a word packing in
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Alone, none of that is conclusive. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is there too.
Why diesel particulate filters block near Plaidy
Plaidy is a rural hamlet, and the day-to-day driving that goes with one is the least kind kind for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, A947 at a standstill at half past eight, a few minutes to Tesco, the dash to the nearest station — none of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should clear banks up instead.
The M90 lies over 50 miles from Plaidy, Aberdeen under 50 miles away, and unless something carries you out that way routinely, entire weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that empties a unit. Geography does not help.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode means. The entire catch is that a sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not climb and power is capped.
Sound advice, that motorway run — up until the point it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that line: treatment is what will do it, not more road work.
DPF cleaning at the motor across Plaidy
On your front, in a work car park, anywhere the car can sit for a few hours: the job is done with the filter even now bolted on, which is the part most drivers do not expect.
The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by percent and by actual weight, along with a check of sensor readings, glow plugs and connected hardware, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never move are loosened second, by a cleaning solution put through the entry point on that motor, which opens out inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to need doing twice.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Plaidy, with you along, or it runs where the car stands and the live data is checked after.
Both reports go over by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second scan is what verifies the change, resets the light and notes whatever is still outstanding.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
One thing is what cleaning cures — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, reporting a blockage that is not real
- EGR valves that hang open
- the AdBlue system failing
- injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration starting at all
- turbo failure, with oil entering the filter
Which is why the scan goes first. If one of those proves the fault, you find out about it in advance rather than once the money has changed hands altogether.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no remedy. What gets searched for as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your filter is cleaned in place and goes back into service.
What DPF cleaning comes to across Plaidy
The clean begins from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that follows.
The price is fixed over the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be straight. Two things shift it: what you run, and where you are — Plaidy itself, over at Cotburn, or otherwise out in the AB postcode area.
A clean that will not work is not cleaning you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. You still pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the scan and gave you the advice.
If the light reappears inside that time, an engineer comes back out to Plaidy — the work includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
DPF Fixer booked an engineer out within 24hrs and arrived on time, Andras was very professional, polite and most importantly cleaned my vans DPF thoroughly and got me back on the road with good aftercare advice. Will certainly use them again in the future.
Jim was in time, very professional and helpful answering my questions and in explaining the diagnostic information. He also could answer my questions about my model which has it's own issues. Very happy with him.
Good job done by Daz. Blocked DPF sorted and car now runs normal, next day service too so well pleased.
Vehicles we clean, and where we reach near Plaidy
Cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery — one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.
The same round that puts engineers on A947 most weeks takes in Plaidy, Cotburn, Crossbrae and the villages beyond Garmond. Further out around Aberdeenshire is nonetheless worth a call — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that picks between one day and the next.

What Plaidy drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- It might, provided you get it early and limp mode has not begun. Five minutes to Tesco and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for a while, will.
- Broadly how long does it run?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly clogged filter can require a second clean, which adds to that.
- How much does it run to in Plaidy?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. The vehicle and your address both shift the figure, so we price on the phone.
- Have I have to be around?
- Nobody expects you to stand with it — the vehicle only wants a spot to sit for a couple of hours. Choosing to be there is welcome: the regeneration then is done out on the open road, monitored.
- Can someone come to Plaidy soon?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is open across the AB area.
- The filter — does it come off the vehicle?
- It is done where it sits, on the call-out service. Neither getting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light reappears?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Plaidy.
