Pitcot, The Vale of Glamorgan: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF is done at the vehicle, not at a garage. The technician turns up at your door over in Pitcot and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned still on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration follows, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
You'll know a figure by phone before anyone departs, the clean opening from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
Written for the state most owners are in: the light already on, the car short for power, and the visit still to fix.
What to do when the DPF light comes on
It might not be the DPF at all. That is the first thing. Several faults put the very same light on the very same dash, which is why a visit begins with a scan rather than with a clean.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.
- Worth a shot before you call anything: amber light, vehicle driving as normal, just one steady run, no outlay.
- That window has shut once the motor has dropped into limp mode. A drive will not get there now.
- Stop planning long drives and get it looked at if the car stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
Signs the motor has been giving you
By the time the light appears, things have generally been slipping for weeks. It is last news:
- pulling uphill, the power drops away
- the revs no longer rise the way they once did
- fuel consumption turning worse
- stop/start silently packing in
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under acceleration
Alone, none of that is proof. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.
The reason diesel particulate filters clog round Pitcot
For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the sort you get around a rural hamlet such as Pitcot. None of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, Penylan Road standing at half eight, ten minutes to The Food Warehouse, the hop to Bridgend. The soot that should clear collects instead.
Neither is distant from Pitcot: under 5 miles to the M4, under 25 miles to Cardiff. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would clear a filter simply never happens.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
What limp mode amounts to is the car protecting itself. The whole difficulty is that a sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not rise and power is limited.
Good advice, that motorway run — right up until the point it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that point: cleaning is what will help, not more road work.
DPF cleaning at the car in Pitcot
The filter does not come off. That is the detail most drivers do not anticipate: the job happens with the DPF yet bolted to the vehicle, on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can stand for a while.
A check happens first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected parts, so other faults are ruled out before a thing is started.
Then the clean. A cleaning fluid is injected through the access point on that car and spreads inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge. Heavily blocked filters sometimes take a second pass.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean loosened. Ride along with the car and it is done as a monitored drive out of Pitcot. Park it and the regeneration goes in place, with real-time data read once it is done.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change proven, the light cleared, anything still outstanding noted. Both reports arrive with you by email, so the numbers are kept.
Where treatment is not the solution
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- pressure or temperature sensors flagging a blockage that is not there
- EGR valves that jam open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- a regeneration that simply never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's whole job. If one of those proves the fault, you hear about it up front rather than once the money has changed hands altogether.
Two more worth noting. Having the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your own filter is treated in place and sent back into use.
Costs for DPF cleaning in Pitcot
Treatment begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We settle it on the phone, once the motor and its expected needs are established. What you own and where you are both change it: Pitcot itself, across at St Brides Major, or otherwise out across the CF postcode area.
Cleaning that will not work is not a clean you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have happened, the call-out charge even so holds.
A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Pitcot if the light returns inside the period.
its been 3 months now and all seems good, the issue has not come back since it was cleaned out, the engineer was really good and explained everything well.
Had my cars dpf cleaned 3 days ago and warning light has not come on. Its a little early to tell if its fixed, but so far so good.
Excellent service. Problem with DPF resolved. Advised regarding care to avoid issues in the future. Staff member very helpful and knowledgeable. Would certainly recommend this company.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around Pitcot
One on-site service covers private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned in place rather than taken anywhere.
Pitcot is seldom a special trip: technicians are out on Penylan Road most weeks, and the same run picks up St Brides Major, Southerndown and the spots out past Ewenny. Ring anyway from farther out across The Vale of Glamorgan. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the date you get depends on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Things Pitcot drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run sort it?
- Sometimes, if you get it early and the vehicle has not fallen into limp mode. That means motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a brief trip to The Food Warehouse.
- Does the visit take long?
- Plan on typically around 2 hours — heavily loaded filters sometimes require a second pass, which adds to it.
- Price across Pitcot — what is it?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we quote on the phone.
- Do I have to be around?
- Somewhere for the car to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. Preferring to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the road, monitored.
- Travelling to Pitcot — how soon?
- You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the calendar. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the CF area has free.
- Does the filter leave the car?
- Not on the on-site service — it is cleaned where it is. Taking a filter off or fitting one back on amount to anything something we do either way.
- The light returns — then what?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Pitcot.
