Pidney, Dorset: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF happens at the car, not at a garage. No workshop, no filter coming off. An engineer travels to your place over in Pidney, treats the diesel particulate filter in place, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Nobody sets off until the price is agreed over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
Most people find us with the light on already, and the motor low on power. That is exactly what this page is aimed at.
The DPF light is on. What then?
Not the DPF, automatically. Opening thing to say. Plenty of faults put the same light on the identical panel, which is why a visit starts with a check rather than with treatment.
The motoring you manage in the meantime matters. That is the second thing.
- Amber light, car yet driving fine — a long constant run can still shift it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you ring anything.
- Vehicle already gone into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it looked at.
Before the light, what the vehicle was showing you
The light is belated news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been growing for some time:
- less power, especially climbing uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they once did
- fuel consumption turning worse
- stop/start quietly giving up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in there
Any one of those, taken alone, is not proof. Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.
What chokes diesel particulate filters round Pidney
Being a residential suburb, Pidney throws up just the use a DPF handles least well. Not one bit of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to Hazelbury Bryan Primary School, Water Knap standing at half past eight, ten minutes to Co-op Food, the hop to Sherborne. Unburnt soot that should burn away builds up instead.
The M5 lies under 50 miles from Pidney, Wells under 50 miles away, and unless something pulls you out that way regularly, full weeks pass without the long steady run that scours a filter. Geography does not oblige.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working
Limp mode is the car defending itself. With pulling power limited and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter requires can never happen at all. That tells, because starting one is exactly what a long run does.
Getting it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it stands up to a limit. The far side of that point — limp mode — more driving will not be enough, and the filter requires cleaning.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is cleaned round Pidney
Most owners do not see coming this part: the filter stays on. The job takes place with the DPF yet fitted to the vehicle — on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can sit for a couple of hours.
The ECU is taken first, showing soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a check of sensor feeds, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are lifted after that, by a cleaning fluid fed through the entry point on that motor, which spreads inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to need doing twice.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Pidney if you are there, or a static regeneration where the car sits, with the live data verified afterwards.
A second check proves the change, puts out the warning light and logs anything still open. Both read-outs are emailed, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.
The problems a DPF clean cannot fix
Only one fault is fixed by cleaning: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- sensors, pressure, reporting a block that is not real
- EGR valves that jam open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration completing whatsoever
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
That is what the first scan is for. You are told before all work gets going, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.
Two more worth knowing. Getting the filter gutted is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleared in place and returned into use.
What DPF cleaning runs to in Pidney
A call-out charge stands whatever follows, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice given. Treatment itself starts from £299.
Naming a flat rate would not be honest. We fix it on the phone, once the motor and its expected needs are known. The car changes it, and so does the address — Pidney, Wonston, or anywhere farther out in the DT postcode area.
Where the scan says cleaning will not do it, you are not billed for a clean. You still pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the diagnostic and offered you the advice.
The work comes with a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Pidney if the light returns inside that time.

The vehicles we clean and the patch we cover round Pidney
Cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles — the one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than taken anywhere.
The same run that keeps engineers on Water Knap most weeks picks up Pidney, Wonston, Kingston and the places beyond Hazelbury Bryan. Even further out around Dorset is nonetheless worth phoning about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that settles between today and tomorrow.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning around Pidney
- Can I merely take it for a long drive?
- If you get it early, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Co-op Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit run long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can require a second clean, which extends that.
- What does it cost around Pidney?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for the call-out that pays for the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both change the figure, so we price on the phone.
- Must I be present in person?
- Space for the vehicle to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be run as a monitored drive instead.
- Coming to Pidney — how soon?
- That comes down to the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is open across the DT area.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- On the call-out service, no: the filter is treated in place. Taking a filter off or fitting one back on come to anything work we do in either direction.
- What if the light comes back?
- An engineer heads back out to Pidney — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
