Pentre-Poeth, Carmarthenshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Mobile DPF cleaning travels to the car. The technician turns up at your address in Pentre-Poeth and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is treated on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you end up with the filter you started with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the figure is settled over the phone before anyone sets off.
The light is on already and the motor is low on power — that is how we usually find people, and precisely what this page deals with.
DPF light on? What comes next
First thing: it is not automatically the unit. A diagnostic goes before the cleaning, because that same dashboard light has plenty of candidate faults behind it.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then matters.
- Amber light, car still driving fine — a long steady run can still sort it by itself. Costs nothing at all, and worth attempting before you call anything.
- That window has closed once the car has dropped into limp mode. Driving will not get there now.
- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Signs the car has been showing you
By the time the light appears, things have generally been slipping for weeks. It is last news:
- pulling uphill, the power drops away
- you see the revs fall short of where they always went
- the fuel use is poorer
- the stop/start quietly bowing out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
That is not evidence on its own. The light beside them points at a full filter.
Why diesel particulate filters clog round Pentre-Poeth
Pentre-Poeth is a residential suburb, and the day-to-day driving that goes with one is the poorest type for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, Lôn y Dderwen at a crawl at half past eight, five minutes to Co-op Food, the dash to Llanelli — not one bit of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. What should clear stays put.
The M4 lies under 5 miles from Pentre-Poeth, Swansea under 15 miles out, and unless something pulls you out that way regularly, whole weeks go by without the sustained run that clears a unit. Geography does not oblige.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
Limp mode is the motor protecting itself. With pulling power limited and the revs held, the regeneration the filter wants cannot complete at all. That matters, because setting off one is precisely what a sustained run does.
So the standard advice to get it up the motorway is good advice, up until the day it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that point: a clean is what will work, not more miles.
DPF cleaning at the car in Pentre-Poeth
Nothing comes off the car. That catches out people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for a couple of hours.
First a check. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a weight, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it logged before a thing is cleaned.
Next comes the clean itself: solution in through the car's own entry point, opening out inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration cannot. A second pass is sometimes required on badly blocked filters.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean loosened. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Pentre-Poeth, with you there, or it runs where the motor waits and the running data is checked after.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change verified, the light reset, anything still outstanding logged. Both sets of figures arrive with you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
Where treatment is not the answer
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment answers. It will not help:
- sensors, pressure, reporting a block that is not real
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration starting whatsoever
- oil working through the filter from a failing turbo
The first diagnostic is there for just that. Where it proves to be one of those, you are warned before any work starts rather than after you have paid anything.
Two things more worth bearing in mind. Leaving the filter gutted is not a solution — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your original filter is cleaned in place and put back into use.
What DPF cleaning costs around Pentre-Poeth
The clean starts from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that follows.
The number is agreed by the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be truthful. Whereabouts you are counts as much as what you drive: Pentre-Poeth itself, Mount Pleasant next door, or further out across the SA postcode area.
If the diagnostic counts treatment out, there is no charge to pay for it. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the check and gave you the advice.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Pentre-Poeth.

Huge thank you to Carolina and Andras for an exceptionally efficient and prompt service. 4 hours from the time I placed my initial call to the DPF being cleaned. We'll definitely be using you again.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach round Pentre-Poeth
The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Most weeks there is usually someone on Lôn y Dderwen, so Pentre-Poeth rarely means a journey of its own, and Mount Pleasant, Felinfoel and the spots past Pwll are on the way. Phone anyway from farther out around Carmarthenshire. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the day you get comes down to the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Questions Pentre-Poeth drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- Quickly enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Five minutes to Co-op Food and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for a while, will.
- How long does the visit last?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is severely loaded.
- Price across Pentre-Poeth — what is it?
- The call-out charge covers the visit, the check and the advice; treatment itself starts from £299. Pricing is done by phone, since what you own and where you live both shift the figure.
- Do I have to be there?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Come along if you would rather, and the regeneration is done as a monitored drive.
- Can someone come to Pentre-Poeth soon?
- That hangs on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the SA area has open.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- Not on the on-site service — it is cleaned where it stands. Nor does getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer returning to Pentre-Poeth.
