Pengelly, Cornwall: Mobile DPF Cleaning
On-site DPF cleaning travels to the motor. The technician pulls up at your door across Pengelly and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleared fitted to the motor, a DPF regeneration follows, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Budget for the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, agreed by the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is on already and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we normally meet people, and roughly what this page is about.
Your DPF light is on — what then?
The unit is not automatically what is wrong, and that comes first. A clean is not where a visit begins. A diagnostic is — several faults register as the same signal.
How the car is run in the meantime counts too.
- A long even run may yet do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes normally. Costs nothing, so try that before booking.
- That window has gone once the car has fallen into limp mode. Motoring will not do it now.
- Stop booking long drives and get it checked if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
Signs the car has been giving you
Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to mount for a while before it appears:
- power falling off, above all climbing uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they always did
- worse fuel use
- stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
By itself, none of that is conclusive. The light beside them indicates a full filter.
Choked diesel particulate filters around Pengelly, and the reason
Being a coastal area, Pengelly produces just the use a DPF manages least well. A regeneration takes the time and heat, and has neither: not on the school run to Delabole Primary School, not on Pengelly at half eight, not on ten minutes to Spar, and not on the hop to the nearest station. The soot load collects rather than burning away.
Except when you have a routine cause to get out to the M5, over 50 miles from Pengelly, or out to Truro under 50 miles away, entire weeks go by without a sustained run. Geography is unhelpful.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode amounts to. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter needs can not run — which is the whole difficulty, because a sustained drive works by starting that regeneration.
Getting it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works as far as a line. In limp mode you are the far side of that stage: a clean is what will do it, not more road work.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Pengelly
Most people do not see coming this bit: the filter stays on. The job happens with the DPF even now bolted to the vehicle — on your front, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can wait for a while.
First a check. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the associated components — all of it read before anything is started.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning fluid is fed in through the entry point on that car and opens out inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to take doing twice.
What the clean has loosened is then cleared by a regeneration. Stay with the motor and it turns into a monitored drive out of Pengelly. Leave it and the regeneration goes in place, with live data checked once it is done.
Then a second scan, proving the change, resetting the warning light and noting anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are kept.
Where cleaning is not the fix
Treatment cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- a pressure sensor flagging a block that is not there
- EGR valves that hang open
- an AdBlue system problem
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting whatsoever
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's job. If one of those turns out to be the fault, you learn of it up front rather than once the money has changed hands for good.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your existing filter is cleared in place and goes back into service.
Figures for DPF cleaning around Pengelly
A clean opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
No flat rate would be truthful, so the price is fixed on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. The car moves it, and so does the address — Pengelly, Rockhead, or somewhere further out in the PL postcode area.
Treatment that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the scan is what says so. The call-out charge even so holds, because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done.
The clean includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Pengelly if the light returns inside that time.
Had one of there reps come to my address and work on my car was very helpful and sorted the problem would recommend them to anyone.

The DPF Fixer technician was prompt, thorough and professional, and most importantly, 3 days later my car passed its MOT (having previously failed on emissions) - we could not be happier!
What we clean, and how far we travel near Pengelly
A single on-site service spans cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than carried anywhere.
Technicians are along Pengelly week in week out, so Pengelly is rarely a special trip, and the same run picks up Rockhead, Newhall Green and the spots out past Helstone. Further out around Cornwall is nonetheless worth a call — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between one day and the next.

Questions Pengelly drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- Sometimes, if you spot it early enough and the vehicle has not dropped into limp mode. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it needs — not ten minutes flat to Spar and back.
- Does the visit last long?
- Plan on typically around 2 hours — severely blocked filters sometimes require a second pass, which extends it.
- Price in Pengelly — what is it?
- A clean starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
- Do I have to be around?
- No. The car wants somewhere to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Preferring to be there is no problem: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
- Coming to Pengelly — how soon?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the diary. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is free across the PL area.
- Does the filter come off the vehicle?
- Done where it stands, on this service, so no. Getting a filter off or putting one back on count as anything a job we do either way.
- And if the light comes back?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Pengelly.
