Pengam, Newport: Mobile DPF Cleaning
On-site DPF cleaning comes to the car. The fitter turns up at your place across Pengam and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is treated on the motor, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
Nobody leaves until the price is fixed by the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
Written for the state most callers are in: the light showing, the motor starved for power, and the job still to book.
What to check when the DPF light shows
It might not be the unit at all. That is the main thing. A number of faults put the identical light on the very same dashboard, which is why a visit begins with a check rather than with treatment.
How the motor is driven in the meantime counts too.
- Amber light, motor yet driving fine — a long constant run can yet clear it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you call anything.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then shut.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under the throttle, is the stage to stop arranging long drives and ring.
Before the light, what the motor was showing you
The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been mounting for a while:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- you notice the revs fall short of where they always went
- worse fuel economy
- a stop/start that has quietly given up
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under hard acceleration
Any one of those, taken singly, is not conclusive. It is a fair guess the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.
The reason diesel particulate filters block near Pengam
For a DPF, the least kind driving is the sort you get in a rural hamlet such as Pengam. The school run to the local primary school, Wentloog Road at a halt at half eight, ten minutes to Tesco, the run to Pye Corner — not one bit of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning away.
The A48(M) stands under 3 miles from Pengam, Cardiff under 10 miles out, and unless something takes you out that way routinely, full weeks pass without the long steady run that empties a unit. Geography does not assist.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode amounts to. The entire catch is that a sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not climb and power is capped.
So the standard advice to take it up the motorway is good advice, until it is not. Beyond that stage — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter requires cleaning.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the motor stands in Pengam
The filter does not leave it. That is the bit most owners do not anticipate: the job happens with the DPF even now bolted to the vehicle, on your front, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can stand for a couple of hours.
First a scan. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a weight, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the related parts — all of it taken before anything is touched.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never move are freed second, by a cleaning solution fed through the entry point on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. A second pass is sometimes called for on heavily blocked filters.
A regeneration is next, clearing what the clean has lifted. Stay with the vehicle and it turns into a monitored drive out of Pengam. Leave it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with live data checked once it is done.
Then a second check, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and noting anything still showing. Both reports are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.
The faults a DPF clean cannot fix
Treatment answers one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
- a jammed EGR valve
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever runs
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
The first scan is there for just that. When one of those turns out to be the fault, you learn of it at the outset rather than once the money has changed hands altogether.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is replaced: the filter you already own is cleaned where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it cut out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
DPF cleaning prices in Pengam
A call-out charge holds whatever follows, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice given. Treatment itself opens from £299.
Not one flat rate would be honest, so the figure is settled over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. What you own and where you are both change it: Pengam itself, out at Peterstone Wentlooge, or otherwise out in the CF postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says treatment will not help, you are not billed for a clean. The call-out charge even so holds, because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place.
The job carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Pengam if the light reappears inside that time.
Huge thank you to Carolina and Andras for an exceptionally efficient and prompt service. 4 hours from the time I placed my initial call to the DPF being cleaned. We'll definitely be using you again.
I was very worried about DPF issues with my Audi A4 and Nic from DPF fixer did a great job. In around an hour he did a test, flush and regen. He was very professional and helpful. Worth the money, I hope, if the issue doesn't come back.
From my desperate phonecall to Zolton showing up was about 1 hour!! The service was quick, friendly and efficient. Zolton clearly has a passion for cars which shone through. He was a really nice guy and explained each step well. The result is a success.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around Pengam
The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Week in week out there is already someone on Wentloog Road, so Pengam rarely means a journey of its own, and Peterstone Wentlooge, Marshfield and the villages past Castleton come with it. Ring anyway from even further out across Newport. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the slot you are offered hangs on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Questions Pengam drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- Sometimes, if you get it early enough and the vehicle has not fallen into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to Tesco and back will not be enough; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
- Roughly how long does it take?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is heavily blocked.
- What does it run to around Pengam?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the check and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why pricing goes by phone.
- Do I have to be around?
- No. The car wants a spot to stand for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive if you would prefer to come along.
- Coming to Pengam — how soon?
- That hangs on the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the CF area has open.
- Does the filter come away from the vehicle?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is done in place. We will not get filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Pengam.
