- falling off on power, above all uphill
- you see the revs fall short of where they always went
- fuel consumption turning worse
- a stop/start that has meekly bowed out
- the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
None of that is proof by itself. The light alongside them suggests a blocked filter.
