Mobile DPF Cleaning around Peiness, Highland

The vehicle sits in place — on-site DPF cleaning goes to it. The fitter turns up at your address in Peiness and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned still on the motor, a DPF regeneration follows, and you keep the filter you started with.

Nobody leaves until the price is settled on the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.

Most drivers find us with the light showing, and the vehicle short of power. That is the position this page is written for.

Your DPF light is lit — what now?

The DPF is not necessarily what is to blame, and that goes first. A clean is not where a visit starts. A check is — several faults appear as the same signal.

The use you do in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.

  • A long steady run may yet manage it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes fine. Costs zero, so have a go at that before ringing.
  • A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has now gone.
  • Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop arranging long drives and get it seen to.

The car has been showing you already

The light is belated news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been growing for some time:

  • less power, above all pulling uphill
  • the revs no longer pull the way they used to
  • the fuel consumption is worse
  • the stop/start quietly packing in
  • the cabin reeking of diesel, or smoke when you press on

Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.

The cause diesel particulate filters choke round Peiness

For a DPF, the least kind driving is the type you find around a coastal area such as Peiness. The school run to the local primary school, A850 at a halt at half eight, ten minutes to Co-op Food, the hop to the nearest station — nothing of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. The soot load builds up rather than burning off.

Neither is a long way from Peiness: over 50 miles to the M8, over 50 miles to Inverness. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the journey that would scour a filter simply never gets made.

The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer run

Limp mode is the motor looking after itself. With pulling power held down and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter wants can never complete at all. That matters, because triggering one is exactly what a motorway run does.

The standard advice — run it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that line: cleaning is what will do it, not more road work.

DPF cleaning for a clogged filter across Peiness, Highland

Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is cleaned in Peiness

Nothing leaves the motor. That throws people. The DPF sits fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, wherever it can stand for a couple of hours.

Nothing is started until other faults are cleared. That means a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and related hardware.

Then the cleaning. A cleaning solution is injected through the access point on that vehicle and opens out inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Severely clogged filters sometimes need a second pass.

What the clean has loosened is then burned off by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Peiness if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle stands, with the running data read afterwards.

Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change proven, the light put out, anything still outstanding logged. Both sets of figures reach you by email, so the numbers are recorded.

Where treatment is not the fix

A clean fixes one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • pressure or temperature sensors flagging a blockage that is not there
  • an EGR valve stuck open
  • an AdBlue system fault
  • injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration starting whatsoever
  • oil coming through the filter from a worn turbo

That is what the first check is for. You are let know before all work starts, not after you have paid, if it turns out to be one of those.

Two things more worth noting. Getting the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your own filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.

Prices for DPF cleaning across Peiness

The clean begins from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that follows.

Not one flat rate would be truthful, so the number is settled by the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. The vehicle shifts it, and so does the address — Peiness, Coulnacraggan, or a spot otherwise out in the IV postcode area.

If the scan rules cleaning out, there is no charge to pay for it. The call-out charge nonetheless stands, because the visit, the check and the advice have been done.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer returns to Peiness.

A vehicle having its DPF treated in Peiness

Thank you Nic, you have done a great job for me today. DPF cleaned and all warning lights cleared, drives like new.

Steve C.

Mechanic who did the dpf cleaning was really good at his job, explained everything he was doing and gave me some pointers on keeping the dpf cleaner for longer. It is pricey but cheaper than replacing the dpf.

Andrew Q.

Excellent service. Were able to come out the same day that I called. Both the person who answered my call and the engineer Dave were friendly and very knowledgeable about dpfs. My van has been running great since.

Where we get to around Peiness, and what we clean

Whatever it is — estate, van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the same mobile service stands, and the filter never leaves it.

Our engineers are along A850 nearly every week, so Peiness is rarely a special trip, and the same run covers Coulnacraggan, Peinmore and the spots out past Borve. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so farther out across Highland is even so worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

Questions Peiness drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough on its own?
Sometimes, if you spot it in time and the motor has not fallen into limp mode. That calls for motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a brief trip to Co-op Food.
Does the visit last long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can require a second clean, which adds to that.
What does it cost across Peiness?
Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why pricing happens by phone.
Is it essential for me to be around?
Somewhere for the motor to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be run as a supervised drive instead.
Travelling to Peiness — how soon?
You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the calendar. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is free across the IV area.
The filter — does it leave the car?
It is cleaned where it stands, on the call-out service. We will not take filters off or put them back on, either way.
And if the light returns?
Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Peiness.
