Mobile DPF Cleaner

Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Peel, Scottish Borders

Sorting the DPF takes place at the vehicle, not at a garage. No garage, no filter going anywhere. An engineer drives out to your place in Peel, cleans the diesel particulate filter where it is, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.

Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, fixed on the phone before anyone leaves.

The light is on already and the car is down on power — that is how we normally meet people, and precisely what this page is about.

The DPF light is on. What now?

First thing: it is not always the filter. Plenty of faults put the very same light on the very same dash, which is why a visit begins with a scan rather than with treatment.

The driving you do in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.

  • Amber light, car still driving fine — a long constant run can even now shift it by itself. Costs nothing at all, and worth trying before you call anything.
  • A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has already closed.
  • Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.

Signs the vehicle has been sending you

Belated news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for weeks before it shows:

  • less power, especially pulling uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not rise as they should
  • fuel use that is worse than it used to be
  • stop/start without a word packing in
  • a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle

Alone, none of that is conclusive. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair guess.

What clogs diesel particulate filters near Peel

Peel is a village, and the motoring that belongs to one is the worst sort for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, Craigmyle Park at a crawl at half eight, ten minutes to Aldi, the hop to Galashiels — not one bit of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. The soot load builds up rather than burning off.

Neither is a long way from Peel: under 50 miles to the M8, under 50 miles to Edinburgh. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the run that would clear a filter never gets made.

The point a DPF regeneration can no longer complete

Limp mode is the car protecting itself. With pulling power limited and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires will not run at all. That matters, because triggering one is just what a long run does.

Sound advice, that motorway run — right up until the point it is not. Past that point — limp mode — more driving will not do it, and the filter wants a clean.

The clogged filter treated after a warning light across Peel, Scottish Borders

Where the motor stands is where the DPF is done across Peel

Most people do not expect this part: the filter remains. The job takes place with the DPF yet bolted to the motor — on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the motor can stand for a while.

A diagnostic comes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by actual weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts, so other faults are ruled out before a thing is started.

A cleaning solution next is fed in through the entry point on that car, opening out inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Where the filter is badly blocked, plan on a second pass.

What the clean has freed is then burned off by a regeneration. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Peel, with you along, or it is done where the vehicle waits and the real-time data is read after.

Then a second scan, verifying the change, clearing the warning light and noting anything still outstanding. Both reports are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.

When a DPF clean is not the fix

Only one fault is answered by treatment: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does no good for:

  • a temperature or pressure sensor flagging a blockage that is not there
  • a stuck-open EGR valve
  • AdBlue system problems
  • a regeneration that hardly ever runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • oil working through the filter from a worn turbo

The first scan is there for exactly that. You are let know before all work gets going, not after you have paid, if it turns out to be one of those.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you have is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it cut out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.

DPF cleaning charges across Peel

A call-out charge holds whatever the outcome, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice passed on. Cleaning itself opens from £299.

Publishing a flat rate would not be straight. We fix it over phone, once the car and its probable needs are known. Two separate things move it: what you run, and where you are — Peel itself, across at Ashiestiel, or further out across the TD postcode area.

If the scan writes treatment out, there is not a penny to pay for it. Because the visit, the check and the advice have been done, the call-out charge nonetheless stands.

A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Peel if the light reappears inside the window.

DPF cleaning performed at a vehicle in Peel

Your fitter, Zac, came at the agreed time and did the work very efficiently outside our house. He explained everything fully and went with me to test drive the car to make sure everything was rectified. Very happy with everything. 10/10.

What we clean, and how far we go round Peel

One mobile service spans private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is cleaned where it sits rather than moved anywhere.

Week in week out there is usually someone on Craigmyle Park, so Peel rarely means a special trip, and Ashiestiel, Caddonlee and the spots past Clovenfords are on the way. Coverage is UK-wide, so even further out across Scottish Borders is nonetheless worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Peel itself

Peel is a small village situated on the riverside in the Scottish Borders, with a low elevation of 141 metres. Peel lies near several other rural communities, including Ashiestiel, Caddonlee, and Caddonfoot, and is approximately 26 miles from Edinburgh. Peel has a population of around 116 people, who mostly reside in detached houses. Peel is also relatively distant from major English cities, being around 305 miles from London.

Questions Peel drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run shift it?
Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the vehicle has not fallen into limp mode. That requires motorway speed for a sustained run, rather than a short trip to Aldi.
Broadly how long does it take?
Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly clogged.
In Peel, what does it run to?
It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the check and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you own and where you sit both move the number.
Do I have to be there?
No. The car wants somewhere to wait for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. Choosing to be there is welcome: the regeneration then runs out on the open road, monitored.
When can someone get to Peel?
That hangs on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is available across the TD area.
Will the filter be removed?
On the call-out service, no: the filter is treated in place. Nor does lifting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
And if the light comes back?
Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Peel.
