Old Saltburn, North Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
On-site DPF cleaning comes to the car. The fitter arrives at your address in Old Saltburn and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is treated fitted to the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
Nobody sets off until the number is fixed over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
If the light is showing and the motor is down on power, this page is yours. That is how most owners end up here.
DPF light on? What happens next
Not the filter, necessarily. First thing to get straight. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A check is — several faults register as the same light.
How the motor is run in the meantime counts too.
- Worth a try before you book anything: amber light, motor driving fine, just one constant run, no cost.
- Motor already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- Get it looked at rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
What the vehicle has been showing you
Late news, the light. The symptoms usually build for a while before it appears:
- going uphill, the power falls off
- you find the revs fall short of where they once went
- fuel use getting worse
- silently, the stop/start bows out
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle
None of that is evidence by itself. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair bet.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Old Saltburn
Old Saltburn is a residential suburb, and the day-to-day driving that goes with one is the least kind sort for a DPF. The school run to Saltburn Primary School, Saltburn Bank at a crawl at half past eight, five minutes to Sainsbury's, the run to Saltburn — not one bit of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning away.
The map does not help either. The A1(M) is under 25 miles from Old Saltburn and Sunderland is under 50 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, whole weeks go by without the sustained run that might empty the filter alone.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
The vehicle is protecting itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. Power is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can no longer run — which is the whole difficulty, because a long drive works by triggering that regeneration.
So the usual advice to get it up the motorway is sensible advice, until it stops being. In limp mode you are the far side of that stage: cleaning is what will help, not more road work.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands in Old Saltburn
Most drivers do not expect this detail: the filter remains. The job takes place with the DPF yet fitted to the motor — on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the car can stand for a couple of hours.
The ECU is read first, giving soot load by proportion and by actual weight, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and related components, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
Then the cleaning. A solution goes in through the access port on that car and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge. Badly loaded filters sometimes take a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean freed. Come with the car and it is done as a monitored drive out of Old Saltburn. Leave it and the regeneration is done on the spot, with running data checked once it is done.
Finally the check runs again — the change proven, the light cleared, anything still open logged. Both read-outs come to you by email, so the numbers are on record.
Where cleaning is not the solution
Only one fault is fixed by a clean: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- pressure or temperature sensors showing a block that is not there
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- AdBlue system failures
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration running whatsoever
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
That is what the first scan is for. Transpiring to be one of them means finding out it before any work begins, not after settling up a penny.
Two more worth bearing in mind. Having the filter gutted is not a solution — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your original filter is treated in place and returned into use.
DPF cleaning charges around Old Saltburn
The cleaning opens from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that goes with it.
Publishing a flat rate would not be honest. We settle it on the phone, once the motor and its expected needs are established. The car changes it, and so does the address — Old Saltburn, New Skelton, or anywhere otherwise out in the TS postcode area.
Where the scan says a clean will not help, you are not charged for a clean. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the check and offered you the advice.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to Old Saltburn.
Really pleased with service. They communicated exceptionally well & Dave really pulled out all the stops to keep me on the road Explaining everything he did Will definitely recommend to anyone who is in the same situation. Thank you.
Good job. Nat was very professional and thorough. Explained in detail what he had done, and gave me advice for the future. Would use them again (but hope not to need to!).
Incredibly prompt arrival, the gentleman didn't want a brew at all he just got on with the job in hand. I was impressed with the lack of mess left behind, Definitely recommend them.
Where we get to around Old Saltburn, and what we clean
Cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, farm vehicles — one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
Old Saltburn is seldom a special trip: technicians are out on Saltburn Bank week in week out, and the same run covers New Skelton, Skelton and the spots out past Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Coverage runs UK-wide, so farther out around North Yorkshire is even so worth a phone call, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning around Old Saltburn
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- It may, provided you catch it early and limp mode has not arrived. A steady run at motorway speed is what it wants — not ten minutes to Sainsbury's and back.
- About how long does it take?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly blocked filter can require a second clean, which lengthens that.
- Price across Old Saltburn — what is it?
- Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- Space for the motor to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
- When can someone get to Old Saltburn?
- You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the schedule. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is available across the TS area.
- Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
- Cleaned where it is, on this service, so no. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Old Saltburn.
