By the time the light arrives, things have normally been deteriorating for a while. It is late news:
- power dropping away, above all going uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they used to
- fuel economy getting worse
- stop/start without a word bowing out
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle
Alone, none of that is conclusive. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is on as well.
What chokes diesel particulate filters round Old
