Old Malton, North Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The vehicle stays put — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. The fitter turns up at your place in Old Malton and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned still on the motor, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.
Nobody sets off until the price is agreed on the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
The light is on already and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we normally meet people, and what this page covers.
Your DPF light is lit — what now?
First thing: it is not automatically the unit. That light can come from plenty of faults, not merely one, so the visit starts with a diagnostic and not with cleaning.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, car even now driving fine — a long steady run can even now clear it on its own. Costs nothing at all, and worth trying before you call anything.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, a long run will not reach it. The window has closed.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it checked.
Before the light, what the car was showing you
By the time the light arrives, things have usually been deteriorating for a while. It is last news:
- less power, above all pulling uphill
- you notice the revs fall short of where they once went
- fuel use turning worse
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
That is not evidence by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is showing too.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Old Malton
For a DPF, the worst use is the sort you meet in a residential suburb such as Old Malton. None of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to St Mary's Catholic Primary School - a Catholic voluntary academy, Westgate crawling at half past eight, a few minutes to Heron Foods, the hop to Malton. What should burn away stays behind.
The map does not help either. The A1(M) is under 50 miles from Old Malton and York is under 25 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way often, whole weeks pass without the long unbroken run that would empty the filter alone.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to. With output held down and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter requires can never complete at all. That matters, because starting one is precisely what a sustained run does.
The common advice — run it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are past that stage, and the filter requires treatment rather than road work.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the motor stands across Old Malton
On your drive, in a work car park, wherever the car can wait for a while: the job is done with the filter still fixed on, which is the part most people do not expect.
First a diagnostic. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a weight, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the connected hardware — all of it read before anything is cleaned.
Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the car's own access port, spreading inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration never can. Heavily blocked filters sometimes require a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Old Malton, with you along, or it goes where the car stands and the real-time data is checked after.
Then a second check, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still logged. Both read-outs are sent over, so the before and after figures are on record.
Where cleaning is not the fix
Only one fault is answered by cleaning: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, reporting a blockage that is not real
- the EGR valve stuck open
- AdBlue system failures
- a regeneration that hardly ever runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- oil working through the filter from a faulty turbo
That is what the first check is for. When one of those proves the fault, you learn of it in advance rather than once the money has changed hands altogether.
Two things more worth bearing in mind. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a solution — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your original filter is treated in place and returned into use.
DPF cleaning prices around Old Malton
The treatment begins from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that comes with it.
Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We agree it over phone, once the vehicle and its likely needs are established. The vehicle changes it, and so does the address — Old Malton, Norton-on-Derwent, or a spot farther out in the YO postcode area.
Treatment that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone turned up, carried out the check and gave you the advice.
A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Old Malton if the light reappears inside the period.
I thought overall it was a good job. Helpful people over the phone, had a quick response and the job was done well.
Needed the van urgently for work, they came first thing the next day, ran a full test before and found it didn't need a clean but was the temp sensors that have failed, gave some good advise and left. Quick, pleasant and honest to deal with.
The technician Zoltan provided excellent service when he came to clean my filter, he answered any questions I had about the procedure and kept me informed as the job progressed, I would highly recommend dpf fixer.
Where we get to around Old Malton, and what we clean
One call-out service covers cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is cleaned where it sits rather than taken anywhere.
Most weeks there is already someone on Westgate, so Old Malton seldom means a detour, and Norton-on-Derwent, Malton and the spots past Broughton follow. Further out across North Yorkshire is nonetheless worth a call — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between one day and the next.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning in Old Malton
- Does a long run shift it?
- It might, provided you get it early and limp mode has not arrived. Fifteen minutes to Heron Foods and back will not be enough; motorway speed, sustained for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit last long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can require a second clean, which extends that.
- The cost around Old Malton — what is it?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for the call-out that covers the scan and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
- Have I have to be there?
- You need not stand with it — the vehicle just needs somewhere to wait for a couple of hours. Choosing to be there is no problem: the regeneration then is done out on the open road, monitored.
- Getting to Old Malton — how soon?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is free across the YO area.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- It is done where it is, on the mobile service. Nor does getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer returning to Old Malton.
