Belated news, the light. The symptoms generally build for weeks before it shows:
- power tailing off, especially climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull as they should
- fuel use that is worse than before
- a stop/start that has silently packed in
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under acceleration
On its own, none of that is evidence. It is a fair bet the filter is loaded once the light is there too.
