Mobile DPF Cleaning around Old Aberdeen, Aberdeen City

The motor remains put — on-site DPF cleaning goes to it. No garage, no filter coming off. A fitter drives out to your address over in Old Aberdeen, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.

The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the price is fixed over the phone before anyone leaves.

If the light is on already and the vehicle is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most people end up here.

DPF light on? What to do

First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. A check comes before all cleaning, because that same panel light has plenty of likely faults behind it.

How the vehicle is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.

  • A long constant run may even now do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle runs as normal. Costs nothing at all, so try that before calling.
  • Once the motor is in limp mode, motoring will not reach it. The window has shut.
  • A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop planning long drives and book it in.

The motor has been warning you already

The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been mounting for weeks:

  • tailing off on power, above all uphill
  • revs that will not rise the way they used to
  • the fuel economy is poorer
  • a stop/start that has silently given up
  • smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in there

Any one of those, taken alone, is not evidence. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is on as well.

What blocks diesel particulate filters near Old Aberdeen

Old Aberdeen is a residential suburb, and the motoring that goes with one is the poorest sort for a DPF. Nothing of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, St Machar Drive crawling at half eight, five minutes to Co-op Food, the dash to Aberdeen. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning away.

The M90 lies over 50 miles from Old Aberdeen, Aberdeen under 3 miles out, and unless something carries you out that way routinely, full weeks slip past without the sustained run that empties a DPF. Geography does not assist.

The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to. The entire catch is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not rise and power is capped.

Getting it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works as far as a line. In limp mode you are past that stage: a clean is what will help, not more road work.

A clogged DPF treated across Old Aberdeen, Aberdeen City

DPF cleaning at the vehicle round Old Aberdeen

On your front, in a work car park, any place the car can stand for a few hours: the job takes place with the filter even now bolted on, which is the bit most people do not anticipate.

The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by percent and by actual weight, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and associated components, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.

Then the treatment. A cleaning solution goes in through the entry point on that car and spreads inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to need doing twice.

What the clean has freed is then driven off by a regeneration. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Old Aberdeen; if not, on the spot where the vehicle sits, with the running data checked once done.

Both read-outs go over by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second check is what confirms the change, resets the light and logs whatever is still outstanding.

Where a clean is not the solution

A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing a clean fixes. It will not touch:

  • the wrong figure from a temperature sensor
  • an EGR valve held open
  • an AdBlue system fault
  • glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration completing in the first place
  • a turbo passing oil through the filter

Finding that out is the first check's job. When it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have settled up for it.

Hollowing the filter out is not a fix: without a functioning DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the term people type in, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is treated in place and sent back into use. Two more worth noting.

DPF cleaning costs across Old Aberdeen

A call-out charge holds whatever follows, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice passed on. Treatment itself starts from £299.

Quoting a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it on the phone, once the vehicle and its likely needs are clear. What you drive and where you are both shift it: Old Aberdeen itself, out at Seaton, or further out within the AB postcode area.

If the check writes a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the scan and passed on you the advice.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer returns to Old Aberdeen.

Professional service. Sorted the problem out left me a breakdown of potential problems on the vehicle so pre-emptying future issues. Thank you.

Phillip M.

The dpf fixer mechanic notified me of his impending arrival, carried out the clean, readings and regeneration; and explained the process. Very pleasant and informative.

John S.

The engineer did a fantastic job, quickly fixed the issue and provided an outstanding service i would highly recommend him.

Questions Old Aberdeen drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough alone?
It can, provided you spot it in time and limp mode has not set in. Five minutes to Co-op Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
Broadly how long does it take?
Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass, which adds to it.
Across Old Aberdeen, what does it run to?
A clean starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
Is it necessary for me to be around?
No. The car wants space to stand for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be run as a supervised drive if you would sooner ride along.
Can someone get to Old Aberdeen soon?
Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is usual. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is open across the AB area.
Will the filter be taken off?
Not on the mobile service — it is cleaned where it sits. We never lift filters off or bolt them back on, either way.
The light comes back — then what?
An engineer heads back out to Old Aberdeen — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
