- Car still driving fine on an amber light — have a go at a long even run first. It costs zero and regularly sorts the filter without assistance.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, a long run will not shift it. The window has gone.
- Get it seen to rather than using it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
What the car has been showing you
By the time the light arrives, things have generally been going wrong for some time. It is last news:
- pulling uphill, the power falls off
- the revs no longer pull the way they once did
- worse fuel economy
- the stop/start without a word giving up
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
None of that is conclusive by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is on as well.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Ogle
Ogle is a village, and the driving that comes with one is the least kind type for a DPF. Run through a normal week: Whalton Church of England Aided Primary School and back, Ogle Bridge at a standstill before nine, a quick trip to Waitrose, a run to Morpeth.
