What the motor has been showing you
The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have normally been growing for some time:
- dropping away on power, above all uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they always did
- consumption that is worse than it was
- stop/start without a word packing in
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
By itself, none of that is evidence. The light beside them indicates a loaded filter.
The cause diesel particulate filters choke round Northfield
Northfield is a residential suburb, and the driving that goes with one is the poorest sort for a DPF.
