North Street, Berkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Call-out DPF cleaning goes to the car. No garage, no filter leaving. A technician comes to your address over in North Street, treats the diesel particulate filter in place, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.

Nobody leaves until the number is fixed by the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.

The light is already on and the car is down on power — that is how we normally meet people, and roughly what this page covers.

What to try when the DPF light comes on

The filter is not always what is wrong, and that leads. A clean is not where a visit begins. A check is — a number of faults appear as the same warning.

It counts what you manage with the car between now and the booking.

  • A long constant run may yet do it, provided the light is amber and the car drives fine. Costs zero, so try that before calling.
  • That window has closed once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode. Motoring will not get there now.
  • A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under acceleration, is the point to stop arranging long drives and call.

What the motor has been showing you

The light is belated news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been mounting for a while:

  • less power, above all going uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not rise like they did
  • fuel use that is worse than before
  • the stop/start quietly giving up
  • smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car

Any one of those, taken alone, is not proof. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.

Blocked diesel particulate filters near North Street, and the why

Being a rural hamlet, North Street produces just the use a DPF copes with the poorest. A regeneration needs the time and heat, and gets neither: not on the school run to Theale C.E. Primary School, not on North Street at half eight, not on five minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the dash to Theale. The soot banks up rather than burning off.

The M4 sits under a mile from North Street, Oxford under 25 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way often, entire weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that clears a unit. Geography does not help.

The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer complete

What limp mode comes down to is the motor looking after itself. With output held down and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter needs cannot run at all. That counts, because triggering one is just what a sustained run does.

Getting it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds as far as a point. The far side of that stage — limp mode — driving will not manage it, and the filter requires cleaning.

Where the motor stands is where the DPF is done in North Street

Nothing comes off the car. That throws people. The DPF stays fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, anywhere it can stand for a couple of hours.

A scan goes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts, so other faults are ruled out before any of it is touched.

A solution then goes in through the access port on that motor, spreading inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Heavily blocked filters sometimes need a second pass.

Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of North Street; if not, on the spot where the vehicle waits, with the live data checked afterwards.

Both reports are sent by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, resets the light and logs whatever is still showing.

Where treatment is not the fix

One thing is what treatment fixes — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a block that is not real
  • a jammed EGR valve
  • an AdBlue system problem
  • failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever runs
  • turbo trouble, with oil reaching the filter

The first check is there for exactly that. When it proves to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have handed over for it.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is exchanged: the filter you have is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth bearing in mind.

What DPF cleaning runs to around North Street

The treatment opens from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that follows.

Once we have what you drive, and about what the filter will take, the number gets fixed by phone. A single price for everyone would not be honest. The vehicle moves it, and so does the address — North Street, Englefield, or somewhere further out in the RG postcode area.

You are not billed for a clean that the check says will not do it. What still holds is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the check was done and the advice was passed on.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to North Street.

Andy J.

Job was carried out on time as requested. After completion I took the truck for a drive and within 1 mile the vehicle went into limp mode. I rang Attila who reattended within the hour reset everything and so far its been fine.

Ian M.

Excellent service, good lad and very helpful and very pleasant too. Very good rates, in fact a lot cheaper than taking it locally and these come out to you.

The vehicles we clean and the patch we reach near North Street

The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.

Nearly every week there is already someone on North Street, so North Street hardly ever means a special trip, and Englefield, Tidmarsh and the villages past Theale come with it. Coverage runs UK-wide, so further out through Berkshire is even so worth a ring, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Questions North Street drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
It may, provided you get it in time and limp mode has not begun. It wants a sustained run at motorway speed, not ten minutes to Co-op Food and back.
How long does the visit take?
Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is severely blocked.
Price in North Street — what is it?
It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the number, so we price on the phone.
Is it necessary for me to be around?
No. The vehicle requires somewhere to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Ride along if you would rather, and the regeneration is done as a monitored drive.
Can someone travel to North Street soon?
Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the RG area.
The filter — does it leave the car?
It is treated where it is, on the call-out service. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
And if the light reappears?
The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to North Street.
