Mobile DPF Cleaner

Nomansland, Devon: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. An engineer arrives at your place over in Nomansland, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

Nobody leaves until the price is settled by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.

If the light is on already and the motor is short of power, this page is yours. That is how most owners end up here.

DPF light on? What happens next

It might not be the filter in the end. That is the opening thing. A diagnostic goes before the cleaning, because that same panel light has several likely faults behind it.

It tells what you manage with the motor between now and the booking.

  • Car even now driving fine on an amber light — try a long even run first. It costs nothing and regularly sorts the filter without help.
  • That window has shut once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode. A drive will not do it now.
  • A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle, is the point to stop planning long drives and book it in.

What the motor has been showing you

The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been mounting for some time:

  • power dropping away, especially pulling uphill
  • you find the revs stop short of where they always went
  • economy that is worse than before
  • stop/start silently bowing out
  • smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there

None of that is conclusive on its own. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.

Why diesel particulate filters block near Nomansland

The motoring that goes with a village like Nomansland is the poorest kind for a DPF. Think about a typical week: Witheridge Church of England Primary Academy and home again, Eastwick Barton at a standstill before half nine, a five-minute run to Morrisons, a run to Morchard Road. None of it there lasts long enough or gets hot enough to complete a regeneration. Instead of burning off, the soot banks up.

The M5 lies under 15 miles from Nomansland, Exeter under 15 miles out, and unless something takes you out that way routinely, full weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that empties a DPF. Geography does not help.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out

Limp mode is the motor looking after itself. A sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode blocks: power limited, revs kept low, no regeneration possible.

Running it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it stands up to a limit. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that line, and the filter needs a clean rather than road work.

Most drivers do not expect this bit: the filter remains. The job happens with the DPF even now fitted to the vehicle — on your front, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can stand for a couple of hours.

First a check. Live ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the connected parts — all of it read before a thing is started.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never move are loosened after that, by a solution put through the access point on that car, which expands inside the filter. A second pass is sometimes called for on severely clogged filters.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean loosened. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Nomansland, with you present, or it goes where the motor sits and the live data is verified afterwards.

A second diagnostic verifies the change, puts out the warning light and lists anything still open. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you keep the before and after figures to hand.

When a DPF clean is not the fix

Only one fault is fixed by cleaning: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does little for:

  • pressure or temperature sensors showing a block that is not there
  • a jammed EGR valve
  • AdBlue system problems
  • injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration starting whatsoever
  • the turbo passing oil into the filter

Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. You are warned before the work starts, not after you have paid, should it turns out to be one of those.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you have is treated where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it hollowed out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth bearing in mind.

What DPF cleaning runs to around Nomansland

Each visit attracts a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, doing the scan and giving the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.

Naming a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it by phone, once the vehicle and its likely needs are known. Two separate things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Nomansland itself, out at Stretch Down, or farther out across the EX postcode area.

Where the diagnostic says a clean will not work, you are not asked to pay for treatment. What still stands is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the check was carried out and the advice was offered.

The job comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Nomansland if the light reappears inside that period.

What we clean, and how far we travel around Nomansland

Cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles — a single on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned in place rather than moved anywhere.

Nomansland is rarely a special trip: engineers are out on Eastwick Barton week in week out, and the same run covers Stretch Down, Queen Dart and the spots out past Witheridge. Ring anyway from farther out around Devon. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the date you are given depends on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Questions Nomansland drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run shift it?
If you catch it early enough, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. That calls for motorway speed for a steady spell, rather than a brief trip to Morrisons.
How long does the visit run?
Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is severely loaded.
What does it run to in Nomansland?
It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the scan and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you run and where you sit both move the price.
Do I have to be present?
A spot for the car to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Wanting to be there is no problem: the regeneration then runs out on the open road, monitored.
When can someone get to Nomansland?
That depends on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is available across the EX area.
The filter — does it leave the car?
It is done where it is, on the call-out service. Nor does taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
Suppose the light returns?
An engineer heads back out to Nomansland — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
