Mobile DPF Cleaning across Nimmer, Somerset

Cleaning the DPF is done at the motor, not at a body shop. A technician turns up at your door across Nimmer, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.

Budget for the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, agreed on the phone before anyone travels.

Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the motor short of power. That is the position this page is written for.

The DPF light is on. What now?

The unit is not automatically what is wrong, and that comes first. That light can arise from a number of faults, not only one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with cleaning.

It counts what you get with the motor between now and the visit.

  • Vehicle still driving as normal on an amber light — have a go at a long constant run first. It costs nothing and regularly sorts the filter without assistance.
  • Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
  • A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under the throttle, is the point to stop booking long drives and call.

What the vehicle has been telling you

Late news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for weeks before it shows:

  • power falling off, especially going uphill
  • you notice the revs fall short of where they always went
  • fuel use that is worse than before
  • quietly, the stop/start gives up
  • the cabin stinking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away

None of that is conclusive alone. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.

The cause diesel particulate filters choke around Nimmer

For a DPF, the worst driving is the type you meet around a rural hamlet such as Nimmer. Look at a normal week: The Redstart Primary School and home again, Pudleigh Lane at a standstill before nine, a short hop to Tesco, a run to Axminster. None of it there goes on long enough or is hot enough to complete a regeneration. What should clear remains.

The map does not help either. The M5 is under 10 miles from Nimmer and Wells is under 50 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way often, weeks slip past without the long steady run that would empty the filter on its own.

The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen

It is self-protection: that is all limp mode amounts to. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode blocks: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration available.

Running it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it stands as far as a point. In limp mode you are past that point: cleaning is what will work, not more miles.

DPF cleaning at the car across Nimmer

The filter does not budge. That is the bit most owners do not expect: the job is done with the DPF still bolted to the vehicle, on your drive, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a couple of hours.

The ECU is interrogated first, giving soot load by percentage and by mass, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and related components, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.

Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never move are freed next, by a solution put through the access port on that motor, which opens out inside the filter. Heavily blocked filters sometimes need a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Nimmer; if not, statically where the car waits, with the live data checked once done.

Both read-outs are sent by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, puts out the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.

Where a clean is not the fix

Only one fault is fixed by cleaning: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does little for:

  • sensors, temperature or pressure, showing a block that is not real
  • the EGR valve jammed open
  • AdBlue system failures
  • glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting in the first place
  • turbo failure, with oil getting into the filter

Finding that out is the first check's job. When one of those is the fault, you find out about it up front rather than once the money has left altogether.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no solution. What gets typed in as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your existing filter is treated in place and goes back into work.

The cost for DPF cleaning in Nimmer

A call-out charge stands whatever the outcome, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice passed on. Treatment itself starts from £299.

Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We fix it by phone, once the vehicle and its probable needs are known. A pair of things move it: what you run, and where you are — Nimmer itself, out at Clayhanger, or otherwise out in the TA postcode area.

You are not billed for treatment that the scan says will not work. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone turned up, ran the scan and passed on you the advice.

Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to Nimmer.

Amazing service! Had a DPF issue (I don't do short journeys) and BMW wanted £3333.73 for a new DPF along with ancillary components. DPF Fixer charged £390. Absolutely amazing service. Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable! I would definitely recommend them to anyone with a DPF issue.

Zac was very helpful and friendly. Explained the process clearly and solved my issue with engine management light. Would recommend to anyone with dpf issues. 5 star from me!

Dilwar H.

Managed to clean the DPF in my Range Rover Evoque whilst in limp mode and get it back on the road in 2 hours. Ashley was knowledgeable and did a cracking job.

Vehicles we clean, and where we travel round Nimmer

A single mobile service spans private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than taken anywhere.

The same trip that puts our engineers on Pudleigh Lane most weeks covers Nimmer, Clayhanger, Cuttifords Door and the spots beyond Combe St Nicholas. Even further out through Somerset is still worth a call — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that picks between this day and the next.

Nimmer itself

Nimmer is a small hamlet in inland Somerset, situated at an elevation of around 90 metres. Nimmer lies near the villages of Clayhanger and Pudleigh, and is also close to the hamlet of New England. Nimmer is characterized by its predominantly detached housing stock, and is located approximately 25 miles from the city of Wells. Nimmer is a rural community with a small population of around 307 residents.

What Nimmer drivers wonder about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough alone?
It can, provided you get it early enough and limp mode has not arrived. That requires motorway speed for a steady run, rather than a brief trip to Tesco.
Does the visit run long?
Plan on typically around 2 hours — badly blocked filters sometimes require a second pass, which lengthens it.
How much does it cost across Nimmer?
It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you drive and where you live both move the figure.
Is it necessary for me to be around?
You do not need to stand with it — the motor simply needs a spot to sit for a couple of hours. Come along if you would rather, and the regeneration turns into a monitored drive.
Getting to Nimmer — how soon?
That hangs on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the TA area has available.
Will the filter be lifted off?
It is done where it is, on the on-site service. We will not take filters off or put them back on, either way.
The light reappears — then what?
The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Nimmer.
