Nidd, North Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The vehicle sits put — mobile DPF cleaning comes to it. Your vehicle is not taken away and the filter does not come off. An engineer turns up at your address over in Nidd, cleans the diesel particulate filter fitted to the motor and performs a DPF regeneration.
Nobody leaves until the figure is agreed on the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
The light is already on and the car is short of power — that is how we usually come across people, and roughly what this page deals with.
The DPF light is on. What then?
It might not be the filter at all. That is the opening thing. A check goes before any treatment, because that same panel light has several likely faults behind it.
How the car is run in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Vehicle even now driving as normal on an amber light — try a long constant run first. It costs nothing and frequently shifts the filter without a visit.
- That window has closed once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode. A drive will not help now.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the point to stop planning long drives and ring.
Before the light, what the car was warning you
The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been building for weeks:
- power falling off, above all pulling uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they used to
- fuel economy getting worse
- the stop/start quietly giving up
- the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.
Why diesel particulate filters block near Nidd
The driving that goes with a rural village like Nidd is the poorest type for a DPF. None of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Ripley Endowed Church of England School, Town Street barely moving at half past eight, ten minutes to Co-op Food, the hop to Starbeck. Instead of burning off, the unburnt soot banks up.
The map does not help either. The A1(M) is under 10 miles from Nidd and Ripon is under 10 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way routinely, whole weeks pass without the long unbroken run that could empty the filter alone.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode is. With power held down and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires cannot complete at all. That counts, because setting off one is just what a motorway run does.
Sound advice, that motorway run — right up until the moment it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are past that stage, and the filter wants a clean rather than road work.
DPF cleaning at the motor across Nidd
Nothing leaves the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF sits fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, anywhere it can wait for two hours or so.
First a check. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related hardware — all of it taken before any of it is touched.
Next comes the clean itself: solution in through the car's own access port, spreading inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration never can. Heavily clogged filters sometimes need a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Nidd if you are there, or a static regeneration where the vehicle stands, with the real-time data read afterwards.
Finally the scan runs again — the change verified, the light put out, anything still outstanding logged. Both sets of figures come to you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not cure
Only one fault is cured by treatment: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- the wrong reading from a temperature sensor
- the EGR valve jammed open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration completing in the first place
- turbo problems, with oil reaching the filter
Which is why the scan happens first. When it proves to be one of those, you are warned before any work starts rather than after you have handed over a penny.
Two more worth noting. Having the filter cut out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is treated in place and put back into use.
What DPF cleaning costs in Nidd
The cleaning opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that goes with it.
Once we are told what you run, and broadly what the filter will take, the price gets settled over phone. A single price for everyone would not be truthful. The vehicle shifts it, and so does the location — Nidd, Brearton, or a spot otherwise out in the HG postcode area.
Cleaning that will not do it is not treatment you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. You still pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the check and gave you the advice.
A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Nidd if the light comes back inside the window.
Great prompt service. Fixed my issue within the hour. Yes expensive at £458 but I was on the road and my van running again. Value for money.

Excellent service provided, same day to clean the filter. Attila was a very nice man friendly, cheerful happy man. Would highly recommend DPF.
What we clean, and how far we travel round Nidd
One on-site service takes in cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than carried anywhere.
Nidd is rarely a special trip: technicians are working Town Street most weeks, and the same run takes in Brearton, Ripley and the spots out past Killinghall. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is this day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring still from farther out through North Yorkshire.

Things Nidd drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- It can, provided you get it early enough and limp mode has not begun. A long run at motorway speed is what it needs — not five minutes to Co-op Food and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily clogged filter can need cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- What does it run to across Nidd?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the scan and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you drive and where you sit both shift the figure.
- Do I have to be present?
- No. The vehicle needs somewhere to wait for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Travel along if you like, and the regeneration turns into a watched drive.
- Can someone come to Nidd soon?
- That hangs on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is available across the HG area.
- Is the filter taken off the motor?
- On the call-out service, no: the filter is done in place. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- What if the light comes back?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Nidd.
