What the car has been showing you
Symptoms have generally been growing for a while before the light ever shows. Late news, in other words:
- power dropping away, particularly going uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they once did
- worse fuel use
- a stop/start that has quietly bowed out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
That is not proof by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is on as well.
Why diesel particulate filters block near Newtown
