Newtown, Cornwall: Mobile DPF Cleaning
On-site DPF cleaning travels to the vehicle. No workshop, no filter leaving. An engineer travels to your door over in Newtown, treats the diesel particulate filter in place, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is agreed over the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is showing and the motor is short of power — that is how we generally meet people, and what this page covers.
Your DPF light is on — what then?
First thing: it is not always the filter. A check happens before any work, because that same dashboard light has a number of possible faults behind it.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then matters.
- Amber light, car still driving fine — a long steady run can yet sort it by itself. Costs zero, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has now closed.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it looked at if the car smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
Before the light, what the vehicle was telling you
Symptoms have generally been mounting for weeks before the light even appears. Belated news, in other words:
- tailing off on power, particularly uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they always did
- worse fuel consumption
- the stop/start without a word bowing out
- the car smelling of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. The light alongside them points at a loaded filter.
Why diesel particulate filters clog around Newtown
For a DPF, the worst use is the kind you meet in a new town such as Newtown. The school run to Ludgvan School, A394 at a standstill at the morning rush, five minutes to Morrisons, the hop to Penzance — nothing of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. The unburnt soot collects rather than clearing.
The M5 stands over 50 miles from Newtown, Truro under 25 miles out, and unless something pulls you out that way routinely, full weeks slip past without the sustained run that empties a unit. Geography does not help.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
What limp mode means is the motor looking after itself. With output held down and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires will not run at all. That tells, because triggering one is exactly what a motorway run does.
The usual advice — run it up the motorway — is sensible, up until it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that stage: cleaning is what will help, not more road work.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle round Newtown
On your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can wait for a few hours: the job takes place with the filter still fixed on, which is the detail most drivers do not anticipate.
A check comes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected components, so other faults are ruled out before a thing is cleaned.
Next comes the clean itself: solution in through the vehicle's own access port, spreading inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration never can. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to need doing twice.
What the clean has lifted is then burned off by a regeneration. Come with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Newtown. Drop it and the regeneration goes in place, with real-time data verified once it is done.
Then a second check, confirming the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still showing. Both sets of figures are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
Only one fault is answered by cleaning: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does little for:
- a pressure or temperature sensor flagging a restriction that is not there
- a jammed EGR valve
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration starting in the first place
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
Finding that out is the first check's job. If it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have settled up for it.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no solution. What gets searched for as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your filter is cleaned in place and goes back into service.
Prices for DPF cleaning in Newtown
The cleaning starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that goes with it.
No single flat rate would be straight, so the figure is agreed on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. Where you are matters as much as what you run: Newtown itself, Longrock nearby, or farther out in the TR postcode area.
Where the check says treatment will not do it, you are not charged for treatment. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge even so holds.
The job includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Newtown if the light returns inside that window.
Great service from Darren. He explained everything this he was doing and answered questions with confidence. Would use them again if I have any troubles again.
dave was polite, very informative and explained very clearly what he was doing. there was no pressure in any work to be carried, over all very impressed with the service and will definitely use again.
I had Kieran unblock my DPF today, can't fault him. He called me before he arrived to let me know he was on his way, explained everything to me before and after!
Where we travel around Newtown, and what we clean
One call-out service covers private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned where it sits rather than carried anywhere.
The same run that keeps technicians on A394 most weeks picks up Newtown, Longrock, Marazion and the villages beyond Ludgvan. Ring anyway from further out across Cornwall. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the date you are offered hangs on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Questions Newtown drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the motor has not slipped into limp mode. It wants a steady run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to Morrisons and back.
- About how long does it last?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily clogged filter can need cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- The cost in Newtown — what is it?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; the clean itself opens from £299. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the number.
- Have I have to be around?
- The car wants a space for two hours or so. You need not be in it. The regeneration can be done as a supervised drive if you would prefer to ride along.
- Travelling to Newtown — how soon?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the TR area.
- The filter — does it leave the car?
- It is done where it sits, on the call-out service. Taking a filter off or bolting one back on count as anything a job we do either way.
- What if the light returns?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Newtown.
