Belated news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for some time before it shows:
- power falling off, particularly climbing uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they used to
- fuel consumption going worse
- stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. It is a fair bet the filter is full once the light is on as well.
