Newton, Somerset: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. Your car will not be taken anywhere and the filter doesn't come off. A fitter turns up at your door across Newton, treats the diesel particulate filter still on the motor and runs a DPF regeneration.
The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the number is agreed by the phone before anyone travels.
The light is showing and the motor is low on power — that is how we usually meet people, and roughly what this page covers.
What to try when the DPF light shows
First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. Cleaning is not where a visit begins. A diagnostic is — plenty of faults register as the same signal.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then counts.
- Worth a try before you ring anything: amber light, motor driving as normal, just one constant run, no charge.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under the throttle — stop booking long drives and get it seen to.
What the motor has been warning you
The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been growing for some time:
- tailing off on power, especially uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they used to
- fuel economy going worse
- stop/start without a word giving up
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken alone, is not proof. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
What blocks diesel particulate filters near Newton
The driving that comes with a rural hamlet like Newton is the least kind type for a DPF. None of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to Stogumber CofE Primary School, Taunton Road crawling at half eight, five minutes to Spar, the dash to Taunton. What should burn away remains.
The map does not help either. The M5 is under 15 miles from Newton and Cardiff is under 25 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, weeks pass without the sustained run that might scour the filter alone.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
The car is defending itself, which is what limp mode means. The entire catch is that a long drive works by starting a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not pull and power is capped.
So the standard advice to get it up the motorway is sensible advice, up until it is not. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are past that line, and the filter requires a clean rather than more driving.
On-site DPF cleaning where the motor stands across Newton
Most people do not anticipate this bit: the filter stays on. The job happens with the DPF still fixed to the car — on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can sit for a couple of hours.
A diagnostic comes first — live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated components, so other faults are eliminated before a thing is touched.
After that comes the clean itself: solution in through the vehicle's own access port, opening out inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration cannot. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to take doing twice.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Newton if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle sits, with the real-time data read afterwards.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change proven, the light reset, anything still outstanding written down. Both reports reach you by email, so the numbers are kept.
Where a clean is not the solution
Only one fault is cured by treatment: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- the wrong figure from a temperature sensor
- EGR valves that hang open
- an AdBlue system failure
- a regeneration that simply never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
The first scan is there for precisely that. Where one of those turns out to be the fault, you hear about it up front rather than once the money has changed hands already.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your existing filter is cleaned in place and goes back into work.
What DPF cleaning comes to across Newton
Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
The figure is fixed over the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be straight. What you own and where you are both change it: Newton itself, over at Bicknoller, or otherwise out across the TA postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says a clean will not work, you are not billed for a clean. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge still holds.
If the light returns inside that time, an engineer heads back out to Newton — the work carries a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Fantastic service, came within 3 hours, Igor is a very knowledgeable polite mechanic. The car runs like a dream. Thank you.
Big thank you to the mechanic who came out to clean my DPF. He was extremely knowledgeable, incredibly helpful, and provided an amazing customer service experience from start to finish. Highly recommend!
Andras was excellent. He arrived on schedule, was knowledgeable, professional and courteous and took care of our car. So far the clean seems to have worked and we hope it continues to so we can avoid the hugely expensive DPF replacement.
Where we get to round Newton, and what we clean
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Newton is hardly ever a special trip: engineers are along Taunton Road most weeks, and the same run covers Bicknoller, Vellow and the spots out past Stogumber. Farther out around Somerset is still worth ringing about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that picks between today and tomorrow.

Questions Newton drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run sort it?
- It might, provided you get it in time and limp mode has not arrived. Five minutes to Spar and back will not be enough; motorway speed, held for some time, will.
- Does the visit take long?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily blocked filters sometimes need a second pass, which lengthens it.
- The cost in Newton — what is it?
- Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the price, so we settle it on the phone.
- Must I be present in person?
- Space for the car to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a watched drive instead.
- Coming to Newton — how soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is normal. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is open across the TA area.
- Is the filter taken off the motor?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. We do not lift filters off or put them back on, whichever way.
- And if the light reappears?
- An engineer heads back out to Newton — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
