Belated news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for some time before it arrives:
- going uphill, the power falls off
- you find the revs stop short of where they used to go
- worse fuel economy
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.
