- Get it looked at rather than running it — diesel in the car, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
The car has been showing you already
Symptoms have usually been building for weeks before the light even shows. Belated news, in other words:
- less power, especially climbing uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they used to
- economy that is worse than it was
- quietly, the stop/start gives up
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair bet.
Why diesel particulate filters block around New Town
