Symptoms have usually been building for weeks before the light even arrives. Belated news, in other words:
- power falling off, especially going uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they always did
- consumption that is worse than before
- stop/start without a word giving up
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under acceleration
That is not evidence by itself. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Why diesel particulate filters block around New Town
Being a village, New Town throws up exactly the motoring a DPF manages least well.
