By the time the light shows, things have generally been going wrong for a while. It is belated news:
- pulling uphill, the power falls off
- the revs no longer climb the way they once did
- fuel consumption going worse
- stop/start quietly giving up
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle
That is not evidence on its own. Next to the light, it is a fair bet the filter is loaded.
The reason diesel particulate filters block round New Downs
