Mobile DPF Cleaning in New Abbey and Dumfries and Galloway
Cleaning the DPF takes place at the vehicle, not at a body shop. A technician arrives at your place across New Abbey, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the vehicle, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
You'll have a figure by phone before anyone leaves, the clean starting from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
If the light is on already and the vehicle is short of power, this page is the right one. That is how most people arrive here.
DPF light on? What comes next
Not the filter, always. Main thing to say. A number of faults put the identical light on the identical panel, which is why a visit starts with a check rather than with cleaning.
It matters what you do with the car between now and the booking.
- Amber light, motor still driving as normal — a long even run can even now clear it alone. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you call anything.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, motoring will not reach it. The window has gone.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it seen to.
Before the light, what the car was telling you
The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been growing for a while:
- power falling off, above all pulling uphill
- you see the revs stop short of where they once went
- the fuel consumption is worse
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.
Why diesel particulate filters clog round New Abbey
New Abbey is a coastal village, and the motoring that comes with one is the worst type for a DPF. A regeneration needs time and heat, and has not much: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on A710 at half past eight, not on a few minutes to Loch Arthur Farm Shop, and not on the run to Dumfries. What should burn away remains.
Save when you have a regular cause to get out to the A74(M), under 15 miles from New Abbey, or over to Carlisle under 50 miles away, whole weeks pass without a sustained run. Geography is no help.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
What limp mode means is the vehicle defending itself. Output is limited, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter needs can not complete — which is the entire problem, because a sustained drive works by starting that regeneration.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — up until the moment it is not. Beyond that point — limp mode — road work will not do it, and the filter requires a clean.
DPF cleaning at the car across New Abbey
On your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can wait for a couple of hours: the job is done with the filter even now fitted on, which is the bit most owners do not anticipate.
The ECU is read first, giving soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a look over of sensors, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still in play.
Then the cleaning. A solution is injected through the access port on that car and expands inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. A second pass is sometimes required on badly blocked filters.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean freed. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of New Abbey; if not, on the spot where the car stands, with the running data read after.
Finally the scan runs again — the change verified, the light cleared, anything still showing logged. Both read-outs come to you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not fix
One thing is what treatment answers — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- a temperature or pressure sensor flagging a restriction that is not there
- an EGR valve stuck open
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that hardly ever starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Which is why the diagnostic happens first. Where one of those is the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has left altogether.
Two more worth bearing in mind. Having the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your existing filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.
DPF cleaning costs across New Abbey
The treatment begins from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that follows.
Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We agree it over phone, once the motor and its probable needs are known. Two things move it: what you drive, and where you are — New Abbey itself, across at Kelton, or farther out across the DG postcode area.
Cleaning that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. You even so pay that charge: someone came out, carried out the diagnostic and offered you the advice.
The work carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to New Abbey if the light returns inside that period.
Made a phone call and next day dpf fixer was at my home to work on the car, fast efficient and great service.

Where we get to near New Abbey, and what we clean
The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
The same trip that keeps our engineers on A710 most weeks covers New Abbey, Kelton, Bankend and the villages beyond Glencaple. Coverage is UK-wide, so further out across Dumfries and Galloway is even so worth a phone call, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Questions New Abbey drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- If you get it in time, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. It needs a long run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to Loch Arthur Farm Shop and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can require a second clean, which lengthens that.
- Cost across New Abbey — what is it?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for the call-out that pays for the scan and advice on what to do next. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the figure.
- Have I got to be present?
- No. The car needs space to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be run as a monitored drive instead.
- Can someone travel to New Abbey soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the diary. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is available across the DG area.
- The filter — does it come away from the vehicle?
- Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it sits. Taking a filter off or fitting one back on come to anything a job we do either way.
- What if the light returns?
- Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to New Abbey.
