The car has been warning you already
Symptoms have generally been growing for weeks before the light even appears. Late news, in other words:
- falling off on power, especially uphill
- you find the revs never reach where they once went
- worse fuel economy
- the stop/start silently giving up
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gears
None of that is proof by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is loaded once the light is showing too.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Netherexe
