Mobile DPF Cleaning in Nasty, Hertfordshire
Sorting the DPF takes place at the car, not at a workshop. The engineer pulls up at your door across Nasty and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleared on the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you started with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the figure is fixed on the phone before anyone leaves.
Most people find us with the light showing, and the car low on power. That is the situation this page is written for.
Your DPF light is lit — what now?
The DPF is not automatically what is wrong, and that goes first. Plenty of faults put the identical light on the very same dash, which is why a visit opens with a diagnostic rather than with cleaning.
It matters what you get with the car between now and the booking.
- Amber light, car still driving as normal — a long even run can still clear it on its own. Costs zero, and worth attempting before you call anything.
- Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not reach it now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it checked.
The vehicle has been telling you already
By the time the light appears, things have usually been going wrong for some time. It is late news:
- power falling off, especially going uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise like they did
- fuel use that is worse than before
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- the cabin stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
That is not evidence by itself. The light beside them suggests a blocked filter.
Clogged diesel particulate filters round Nasty, and the why
The motoring that comes with a rural hamlet like Nasty is the poorest type for a DPF. A regeneration takes time and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School, not on Mentley Lane at half eight, not on five minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the hop to Watton-At-Stone. Instead of clearing, the soot builds up.
Unless you have a routine reason to drive out to the A1(M), under 10 miles from Nasty, or out to St Albans under 25 miles away, weeks pass without a sustained run. Geography is unhelpful.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode means. A sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode prevents: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration available.
Taking it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works right up to a limit. Beyond that line — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter wants cleaning.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Nasty
Most owners do not see coming this part: the filter stays put. The job happens with the DPF still fixed to the motor — on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the car can wait for a couple of hours.
First a check. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related components — all of it read before a thing is cleaned.
A cleaning fluid after that is injected through the entry point on that car, opening out inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. Where the filter is badly loaded, allow for a second pass.
A regeneration follows, driving off what the clean has loosened. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Nasty; if not, statically where the motor stands, with the running data verified after.
Finally the scan runs again — the change verified, the light reset, anything still showing noted. Both read-outs reach you by email, so the numbers are kept.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
One thing is what treatment answers — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- pressure or temperature sensors reporting a block that is not there
- EGR valves that jam open
- the AdBlue system playing up
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running in the first place
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Which is why the diagnostic happens first. You are told before the work begins, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no fix. What gets looked up as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your own filter is cleared in place and goes back into service.
Figures for DPF cleaning in Nasty
The treatment opens from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that follows.
No single flat rate would be honest, so the price is settled over the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. Where you are counts as much as what you drive: Nasty itself, Cherry Green nearby, or farther out in the SG postcode area.
Treatment that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so. What nonetheless holds is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the scan was run and the advice was passed on.
If the light reappears inside that period, an engineer travels back out to Nasty — the clean includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
Daniel was excellent. He carried out the work efficiently and professionally. Diagnosed the fault and sorted it out. Thank you Daniel.
Really helpful, told me why the filter had blocked in the first place and managed to clean it out fully.
Had a clean. Didn't fix problem. Came back out. Still didn't fix the problem. Wast of time and £400.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to round Nasty
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is taken anywhere.
The same trip that keeps engineers on Mentley Lane most weeks picks up Nasty, Cherry Green, Old Hall Green and the villages beyond Westmill. Even further out around Hertfordshire is even so worth a call — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between today and tomorrow.

Questions Nasty drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- If you spot it early enough, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. Ten minutes to Co-op Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
- Does the visit last long?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — heavily clogged filters sometimes need a second pass, which lengthens it.
- The cost across Nasty — what is it?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for the call-out that covers the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why settling it goes by phone.
- Must I be present in person?
- No. The car needs space to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Preferring to be there is fine: the regeneration then runs out on the open road, monitored.
- How soon can someone come to Nasty?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is typical. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the SG area.
- Does the filter come off the car?
- On the call-out service, no: the filter is treated in place. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- And if the light reappears?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Nasty.
