Signs the car has been showing you
Symptoms have generally been building for some time before the light so much as shows. Late news, in other words:
- going uphill, the power tails off
- the revs no longer climb the way they once did
- fuel use getting worse
- a stop/start that has quietly packed in
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell inside
By itself, none of that is proof. Alongside the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
The reason diesel particulate filters block around Nantglyn
