Mobile DPF Cleaning across Murkle and Highland
Cleaning the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a body shop. No workshop, no filter coming off. An engineer comes to your place over in Murkle, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Nobody sets off until the price is agreed over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Most people find us with the light already on, and the car low on power. That is the situation this page is meant for.
DPF light on? What happens next
Not the filter, automatically. First thing to get straight. A check comes before all treatment, because that same dashboard light has a number of likely faults behind it.
How the motor is run in the meantime counts too.
- Vehicle even now driving normally on an amber light — have a go at a long even run first. It costs zero and regularly clears the filter without a visit.
- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, driving will not shift it. The window has gone.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it checked.
Before the light, what the motor was showing you
Late news, the light. The symptoms usually grow for some time before it shows:
- power dropping away, particularly pulling uphill
- you find the revs stop short of where they always went
- worse fuel economy
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
None of that is proof by itself. With the light with them, the filter is a fair bet.
Choked diesel particulate filters around Murkle, and the reason
Being a coastal village, Murkle generates exactly the driving a DPF manages least well. The school run to the local primary school, Sibmister Road at a standstill at half eight, ten minutes to Tesco, the hop to Thurso — nothing of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. What should clear remains.
Neither is a long way from Murkle: over 50 miles to the M90, over 50 miles to Inverness. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter simply never comes.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode ends it
The vehicle is defending itself, which is what limp mode is. With output held down and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter needs will not run at all. That matters, because triggering one is precisely what a long run does.
Sound advice, that motorway run — up until the point it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that point: treatment is what will do it, not more driving.
The vehicle stays put for on-site DPF cleaning round Murkle
Nothing is taken from the motor. That surprises people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work is done around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, wherever it can stand for a couple of hours.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are eliminated. That means a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and related components.
A solution next is injected through the access point on that motor, opening out inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge. A second pass is sometimes needed on badly clogged filters.
What the clean has freed is then cleared by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Murkle if you are along, or a static regeneration where the motor sits, with the running data read once done.
A second check proves the change, clears the warning light and lists anything still showing. Both read-outs are sent over, so you have the before and after figures to hand.
Where treatment is not the answer
A clean cures one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- a pressure or temperature sensor flagging a block that is not there
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- a fault in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration completing at all
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
The first diagnostic is there for precisely that. When one of those proves the fault, you hear about it in advance rather than once the money has gone for good.
A couple more worth bearing in mind. Having the filter cut out is not a solution — a vehicle without a functioning DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your existing filter is treated in place and sent back into use.
Costs for DPF cleaning around Murkle
Any visit carries a call-out charge — travelling to you, setting up the booking, doing the scan and passing on the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
No single flat rate would be straight, so the figure is settled on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. The motor changes it, and so does the postcode — Murkle, Clardon, or anywhere otherwise out in the KW postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for a clean that the scan says will not do it. The call-out charge still holds, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place.
A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Murkle if the light comes back inside the period.
Thomas was great, explained everything to me so I understood and got my car back on the road. Really informative and gave good advice.
Came to my place of work which helped. Very courteous & friendly engineer. A bit pricey I thought for an hour and half work at £450, but I had to get it done.
Excellent service from Gareth at DPF fixer. Very thorough, gave full and clear explanation of problem, extremely helpful. Worth every penny for peace of mind and sorting problem.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around Murkle
The filter is treated in place on all of them: cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
The same trip that has our engineers on Sibmister Road most weeks picks up Murkle, Clardon, Dixonfield and the villages beyond Castletown. Call anyway from even further out through Highland. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the date you get comes down to the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Things Murkle drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run sort it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it early and the vehicle has not fallen into limp mode. That requires motorway speed for a long run, rather than a quick trip to Tesco.
- Roughly how long does it run?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely blocked filter can need a second clean, which lengthens that.
- What does it come to around Murkle?
- A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the price, so we quote on the phone.
- Must I be around in person?
- The vehicle requires a place for two hours or so. You need not be in it. The regeneration can be done as a supervised drive if you would prefer to ride along.
- How soon can someone come to Murkle?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the schedule. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the KW area has open.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- Not on the mobile service — it is cleaned where it sits. We never lift filters off or put them back on, in either direction.
- The light comes back — then what?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Murkle.
