The light is belated news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have generally been growing for weeks:
- climbing uphill, the power falls off
- you find the revs stop short of where they used to go
- worse fuel consumption
- stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
On its own, none of that is proof. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.
The reason diesel particulate filters clog around Mucking
