Moll, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Mobile DPF cleaning travels to the car. Your vehicle will not be taken off and the filter doesn't come off. A fitter comes at your place in Moll, cleans the diesel particulate filter fitted to the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.

The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the figure is agreed over the phone before anyone leaves.

Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the vehicle low on power. That is the position this page is written for.

What to do when the DPF light is on

The unit is not always what is wrong, and that comes first. Several faults put the same light on the very same dash, which is why a visit starts with a scan rather than with cleaning.

The motoring you manage in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.

  • A long constant run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the vehicle drives fine. Costs nothing at all, so have a go at that before booking.
  • Once the motor is in limp mode, driving will not touch it. The window has shut.
  • A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under the throttle, is the point to stop arranging long drives and book it in.

Signs the vehicle has been giving you

The light is belated news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been building for a while:

  • climbing uphill, the power tails off
  • the revs no longer pull the way they used to
  • fuel consumption getting worse
  • the stop/start quietly giving up
  • smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell inside

Alone, none of that is evidence. Next to the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.

The explanation diesel particulate filters choke around Moll

The driving that goes with a coastal area like Moll is the poorest kind for a DPF. Think about an ordinary week: the local primary school and back, Moll Road at a standstill before half nine, a quick trip to Co-op Food, a dash to the nearest station. Nothing there goes on long enough or gets hot enough to finish a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should burn away collects instead.

Neither is far from Moll: over 50 miles to the M8, over 50 miles to Inverness. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the drive that would empty a filter hardly ever gets made.

DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode stops it

The vehicle is looking after itself, which is what limp mode means. With pulling power capped and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter needs can never happen at all. That tells, because triggering one is precisely what a motorway run does.

So the standard advice to take it up the motorway is sensible advice, right until the day it is not. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are past that line, and the filter requires cleaning rather than road work.

On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands in Moll

The filter does not come off. That is the part most owners do not see coming: the job takes place with the DPF still fixed to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the car can sit for a couple of hours.

Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That requires a scan first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a review of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected parts.

Then the treatment. A solution is injected through the entry point on that motor and spreads inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. A second pass is sometimes called for on badly clogged filters.

A regeneration follows, driving off what the clean has lifted. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Moll; if not, statically where the car waits, with the running data checked after.

Finally the scan runs again — the change verified, the light put out, anything still outstanding noted. Both sets of figures reach you by email, so the numbers are on record.

The problems a DPF clean cannot fix

A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment answers. It will not touch:

  • the wrong figure from a temperature or pressure sensor
  • the EGR valve held open
  • AdBlue system failures
  • a regeneration that simply never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • turbo failure, with oil getting into the filter

Which is why the diagnostic goes first. When one of those proves the fault, you hear about it up front rather than once the money has changed hands for good.

DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth bearing in mind.

DPF cleaning prices in Moll

Cleaning begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

Once we know what you run, and broadly what the filter will want, the figure gets fixed on the phone. A single price for everyone would not be straight. The vehicle shifts it, and so does the location — Moll, Ard Dorch, or a spot further out in the IV postcode area.

Where the scan says treatment will not help, you are not billed for treatment. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the diagnostic and passed on you the advice.

The work carries a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Moll if the light comes back inside that window.

Attila was very professional knew what he was dealing with fixed the problem, fingers crossed the problem won't return as it has every time the garage has fixed it.

Huge thank you to Carolina and Andras for an exceptionally efficient and prompt service. 4 hours from the time I placed my initial call to the DPF being cleaned. We'll definitely be using you again.

Matt K.

Really helpful, told me why the filter had blocked in the first place and managed to clean it out fully.

Vehicles we clean, and where we travel near Moll

Cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles — a single on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned in place rather than carried anywhere.

Our engineers are along Moll Road week in week out, so Moll is rarely a detour, and the same run takes in Ard Dorch, Dunan and the places out past Sconser. It is the schedule, not the distance, that settles whether it is one day or the next, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so phone still from farther out around Highland.

What Moll drivers want to know about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
Early enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It takes a steady run at motorway speed, not five minutes flat to Co-op Food and back.
The visit runs how long?
Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is severely clogged.
Around Moll, what does it run to?
The call-out charge takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; the clean itself begins from £299. Pricing is done by phone, since what you own and where you live both change the price.
Have I got to be there?
No. The car wants a spot to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Travel along if you like, and the regeneration becomes a monitored drive.
When can someone get to Moll?
That hangs on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the IV area has open.
Does the filter come away from the vehicle?
On the on-site service, no: the filter is done in place. Getting a filter off or bolting one back on come to anything work we do either way.
The light reappears — then what?
Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Moll.
