It might not be the unit at all. That is the opening thing. A number of faults put the identical light on the very same dashboard, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with cleaning.
It matters what you do with the motor between now and the visit.
- Vehicle yet driving as normal on an amber light — try a long constant run first. It costs nothing and regularly clears the filter without assistance.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has already closed.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the moment to stop booking long drives and call.
What the car has been warning you
Symptoms have generally been building for weeks before the light ever shows. Belated news, in other words:
- going uphill, the power tails off
- the revs no longer pull the way they once did
- fuel consumption getting worse
- without a word, the stop/start bows out
- the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
That is not conclusive by itself. It is a fair guess the filter is blocked once the light is on as well.
What chokes diesel particulate filters around Millbrook
