Mobile DPF Cleaning across Mile Cross and Norfolk
Cleaning the DPF takes place at the car, not at a workshop. No garage, no filter leaving. An engineer travels to your place over in Mile Cross, cleans the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.
You'll be given a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the vehicle down on power. That is the situation this page is written for.
DPF light on? What to do
It may not be the unit at all. That is the opening thing. That light can arise from several faults, not just one, so the visit begins with a diagnostic and not with cleaning.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, vehicle even now driving as normal — a long constant run can yet sort it on its own. Costs zero, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, driving will not shift it. The window has shut.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the point to stop booking long drives and ring.
What the vehicle has been warning you
Late news, the light. The symptoms generally mount for a while before it shows:
- falling off on power, particularly uphill
- you find the revs fall short of where they used to go
- worse fuel use
- silently, the stop/start gives up
- the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
None of that is proof alone. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is there too.
What chokes diesel particulate filters near Mile Cross
The driving that belongs to a residential suburb like Mile Cross is the least kind type for a DPF. The school run to Heather Avenue Infant School, Reepham Road at a crawl at half eight, a few minutes to Spar, the dash to Norwich — nothing of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. The soot load builds up rather than burning away.
The map does not help either. The M11 is over 50 miles from Mile Cross and Norwich is under 3 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way routinely, whole weeks slip past without the long steady run that would clear the filter by itself.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode means. With power capped and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires can never run at all. That counts, because triggering one is exactly what a long run does.
The usual advice — run it up the motorway — is sensible, until it is not. Past that stage — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter wants treatment.
On-site DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Mile Cross
Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF stays fixed where it is and the work is done around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a couple of hours.
A check goes first — live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated parts, so other faults are eliminated before any of it is touched.
Then the clean. A solution goes in through the entry point on that motor and opens out inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Heavily clogged filters sometimes need a second pass.
What the clean has lifted is then driven off by a regeneration. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Mile Cross, with you there, or it runs where the car stands and the running data is verified after.
Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, clears the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.
What a DPF clean will not fix
Only one fault is cured by cleaning: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- pressure sensors flagging a blockage that is not there
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- the AdBlue system playing up
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever starts
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. Transpiring to be one of them means learning it before any work starts, not after handing over anything.
Two more worth noting. Having the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a functioning DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your existing filter is treated in place and sent back into use.
What DPF cleaning comes to in Mile Cross
Any visit carries a call-out charge — travelling to you, taking the booking, carrying out the diagnostic and giving the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
Quoting a flat rate would not be truthful. We fix it on the phone, once the motor and its likely needs are clear. What you run and where you are both shift it: Mile Cross itself, over at Upper Hellesdon, or farther out across the NR postcode area.
You are not charged for treatment that the scan says will not do it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge nonetheless applies.
The clean comes with a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Mile Cross if the light reappears inside that time.
Very honest, friendly and straight forward company and engineer (Attilla). He ran a diagnostic check and said that they could try cleaning it out but it would probably block again within a few weeks. Hence I was very happy to have only paid the £150.
The engineer came next day on time and did a full diagnosis. In the end he said my DPF was only 20% full so did not require the DPF clean. I paid for the call out only so they are honest people. Would definitely recommend this company without hesitation.
Highly recommended I went plenty places to fix DPF but no one could and very expensive new one then found here called them same day they came and fixed now all good and best customer service they give before work and after work as well.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around Mile Cross
The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Technicians are along Reepham Road week in week out, so Mile Cross is seldom a special trip, and the same run covers Upper Hellesdon, Old Catton and the villages out past Drayton. Farther out across Norfolk is still worth a call — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that decides between one day and the next.

What Mile Cross drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Can I merely take it for a long drive?
- Early enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Spar and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
- Does the visit take long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely clogged filter can need cleaning twice, which adds time.
- Cost across Mile Cross — what is it?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; cleaning itself starts from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why quoting is done by phone.
- Have I got to be around?
- A spot for the motor to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Ride along if you prefer, and the regeneration becomes a watched drive.
- How soon can someone travel to Mile Cross?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is available across the NR area.
- The filter — does it come off the car?
- Treated where it is, on this service, so no. And neither does getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- And if the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Mile Cross.
