Symptoms have usually been growing for some time before the light even arrives. Last news, in other words:
- power tailing off, especially going uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they used to
- the fuel economy is worse
- the stop/start silently packing in
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in there
On its own, none of that is proof. Next to the light, it is a fair bet the filter is full.
