Mobile DPF Cleaning in Merridge, Somerset
On-site DPF cleaning travels to the car. An engineer comes at your door over in Merridge, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the car, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.
Nobody sets off until the figure is fixed on the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
If the light is already on and the motor is down on power, this page is for you. That is how most owners arrive here.
DPF light on? What to do
Not the unit, necessarily. First thing to note. A scan comes before any treatment, because that same panel light has plenty of possible faults behind it.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then counts.
- Amber light, motor yet driving normally — a long even run can still shift it by itself. Costs zero, and worth a try before you book anything.
- Car already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it seen to.
Before the light, what the car was warning you
Symptoms have generally been mounting for weeks before the light ever shows. Last news, in other words:
- dropping away on power, particularly uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they once did
- worse fuel consumption
- a stop/start that has silently packed in
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
Alone, none of that is proof. It is a fair bet the filter is loaded once the light is there too.
The reason diesel particulate filters choke around Merridge
For a DPF, the least kind use is the sort you find across a rural hamlet such as Merridge. A regeneration takes the time and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to Spaxton CofE Primary School, not on Good's Lane at half past eight, not on a few minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the run to Taunton. The soot load builds up rather than burning off.
The M5 sits under 10 miles from Merridge, Wells under 25 miles away, and unless something carries you out that way routinely, entire weeks slip past without the long steady run that clears a unit. Geography does not help.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
The vehicle is defending itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. The whole problem is that a sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.
The common advice — run it up the motorway — is sound, up until it is not. The filter wants a clean rather than driving once the motor has slipped into limp mode.
The vehicle stays where it is for call-out DPF cleaning across Merridge
Most drivers do not see coming this part: the filter stays put. The job happens with the DPF even now bolted to the vehicle — on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the car can wait for a couple of hours.
A scan goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated components, so other faults are eliminated before a thing is started.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never move are loosened after that, by a cleaning fluid passed through the entry point on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. Where the filter is severely loaded, plan on a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Merridge if you are present, or a static regeneration where the car sits, with the live data read after.
Both read-outs go over by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second check is what proves the change, resets the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.
Where treatment is not the fix
Only one fault is fixed by treatment: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- a pressure sensor flagging a restriction that is not there
- the EGR valve jammed open
- AdBlue system failures
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
- oil passing through the filter from a failing turbo
Which is why the check goes first. Transpiring to be one of them means hearing it before the work starts, not after paying a penny.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is replaced: the filter you own is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it hollowed out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth noting.
Prices for DPF cleaning around Merridge
Cleaning begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Not one flat rate would be truthful, so the number is agreed over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. What you own and where you are both move it: Merridge itself, over at Lower Aisholt, or farther out in the TA postcode area.
Cleaning that will not help is not treatment you pay for, and the check is what says so. What even so applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the scan was done and the advice was offered.
A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Merridge if the light returns inside the period.
Great service, from booking to completion of clean. Attila was really good, helpful and knowledgeable, explaining everything clearly; would definitely recommend!!
Id recommend DPF Fixer when your dpf needs cleaning. Daniel who attended to my car was friendly, knowledgeable, explaining what the problem was and how he fixed it. I also needed a replacement sensor which Daniel sorted. A very good service. Thank you.
Bas was very knowledgeable and explained everything that was happening. He was very thorough. I would be happy to recommend DPF fixer to anyone experiencing the issues I was, especially when the cost of a new filter runs into the thousands of pounds.
Where we reach around Merridge, and what we clean
The filter is treated where it sits on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Nearly every week there is usually someone on Good's Lane, so Merridge hardly ever means a journey of its own, and Lower Aisholt, Aisholt and the places past Enmore come with it. Farther out across Somerset is even so worth a call — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that decides between today and tomorrow.

What Merridge drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- Sometimes, if you spot it early enough and the vehicle has not fallen into limp mode. That means motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a quick trip to Co-op Food.
- About how long does it last?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily loaded filter can need cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- Price across Merridge — what is it?
- Treatment begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the check and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the price.
- Must I be around in person?
- Somewhere for the car to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. The regeneration can be done as a watched drive if you would sooner ride along.
- How soon can someone get to Merridge?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is open across the TA area.
- Does the filter come away from the car?
- Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it is. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything work we do in either direction.
- What if the light comes back?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Merridge.
