Mobile DPF Cleaning across Mells and Somerset

On-site DPF cleaning travels to the car. The fitter pulls up at your place over in Mells and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned still on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you hold on to the filter you came with.

Nobody sets off until the figure is fixed by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.

Most drivers find us with the light already on, and the motor short of power. That is exactly what this page is meant for.

What to check when the DPF light comes on

It could not be the filter in the end. That is the main thing. A clean is not where a visit begins. A scan is — several faults appear as the same warning.

How the vehicle is run in the meantime makes a difference too.

  • A long even run may still manage it, provided the light is amber and the car runs normally. Costs zero, so have a go at that before booking.
  • Once the motor is in limp mode, motoring will not shift it. The window has shut.
  • Stop arranging long drives and get it checked if the cabin stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.

The vehicle has been showing you already

By the time the light arrives, things have generally been going wrong for a while. It is late news:

  • dropping away on power, particularly uphill
  • you see the revs never reach where they once went
  • fuel use that is worse than it used to be
  • the stop/start without a word giving up
  • diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears

That is not conclusive on its own. Alongside the light with them, the filter is a fair bet.

What clogs diesel particulate filters around Mells

Mells is a village, and the motoring that comes with one is the poorest type for a DPF. Look at an ordinary week: Mells Church First School and home again, Tents Hill at a crawl before nine, a short hop to Co-op Food, a hop to Frome. Nothing there runs long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. What should burn off stays behind.

Neither is a long way from Mells: under 25 miles to the M32, under 15 miles to Bath. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the journey that would empty a filter simply never happens.

The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer complete

What limp mode means is the car defending itself. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter needs can never run — which is the real problem, because a sustained drive works by setting off that regeneration.

So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is good advice, until it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are past that line, and the filter requires cleaning rather than road work.

DPF cleaning at the motor across Mells

Most owners do not see coming this bit: the filter remains. The job takes place with the DPF yet fixed to the vehicle — on your front, in a work car park, wherever the car can stand for a few hours.

First a diagnostic. Running ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensors, the glow plugs, the associated components — all of it taken before anything is cleaned.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never shift are freed second, by a solution put through the access point on that motor, which spreads inside the filter. Where the filter is heavily blocked, expect a second pass.

What the clean has lifted is then burned off by a regeneration. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Mells; if not, statically where the vehicle sits, with the live data verified afterwards.

Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second check is what confirms the change, puts out the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.

When a DPF clean is not the fix

One thing is what a clean cures — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
  • a failed EGR valve
  • an AdBlue system problem
  • glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration completing at all
  • turbo failure, with oil reaching the filter

The first check is there for precisely that. Turning out to be one of them means hearing it before work starts, not after handing over a penny.

Hollowing the filter out is not a remedy: without a working DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the wording people look up, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is cleared in place and sent back into use. Two more worth knowing.

What DPF cleaning costs around Mells

A call-out charge holds whatever the outcome, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice passed on. Treatment itself starts from £299.

No single flat rate would be truthful, so the price is fixed on the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. The motor moves it, and so does the postcode — Mells, Mells Green, or anywhere otherwise out in the BA postcode area.

Cleaning that will not work is not cleaning you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. The call-out charge still applies, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place.

The job carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Mells if the light returns inside that period.

5 star service. Phoned up first thing Monday morning had a local technician out within a couple of hours who sorted my DPF issue very promptly. Very helpful and informative. Would definitely recommend.

Had a lad called daz come out to blocked dpf on a fiat 500 diagnostic check and clean explained from start to finish the faults excellent job and showed what caused the problem and what I need to replace to stop future problems.

Dean L.

Dave was great and really knowledgeable, was polite enough to call me letting me know his arrival time. He cleaned my dpf in about an hour and even gave me some advice on further maintenance on my BMW. Thanks Dave.

Where we reach around Mells, and what we clean

Cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles — one on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.

The same trip that keeps our engineers on Tents Hill most weeks covers Mells, Mells Green, Upper Vobster and the places beyond Great Elm. It is the diary, not the distance, that decides whether it is this day or the next, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so call anyway from even further out through Somerset.

What Mells drivers wonder about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive shift it?
It might, provided you catch it in time and limp mode has not arrived. Fifteen minutes to Co-op Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, held for some time, will.
The visit runs how long?
Allow typically around 2 hours — badly blocked filters sometimes require a second pass, which extends it.
How much does it come to around Mells?
Opening from £299, with a charge for coming out that takes in the check and advice on what to do next. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both move the figure.
Have I have to be present?
The vehicle needs a place for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Preferring to be there is welcome: the regeneration then is done out on the road, monitored.
When can someone travel to Mells?
You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the schedule. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is open across the BA area.
Is the filter taken off the car?
Not on the call-out service — it is cleaned where it sits. We do not take filters off or put them back on, either way.
Suppose the light comes back?
Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Mells.
