Mobile DPF Cleaning across Mark Cross and East Sussex
Treating the DPF takes place at the car, not at a garage. No garage, no filter coming off. A technician comes to your address across Mark Cross, treats the diesel particulate filter in place, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
Nobody leaves until the price is settled by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
If the light is showing and the vehicle is low on power, this page is the right one. That is how most owners get to us.
The DPF light is on. What then?
Not the filter, automatically. Opening thing to note. Several faults put the same light on the very same dash, which is why a visit starts with a scan rather than with cleaning.
It counts what you do with the vehicle between now and the appointment.
- Worth a go before you ring anything: amber light, car driving as normal, just one constant run, no charge.
- Vehicle already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
- Get it looked at rather than driving it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.
The vehicle has been warning you already
Belated news, the light. The symptoms tend to mount for some time before it arrives:
- falling off on power, especially uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they always did
- worse fuel economy
- the stop/start silently bowing out
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
That is not proof by itself. Alongside the light with them, the filter is a fair assumption.
What blocks diesel particulate filters around Mark Cross
Mark Cross is a rural village, and the motoring that belongs to one is the poorest kind for a DPF. The school run to Mark Cross Church of England Aided Primary School, St Marks Mews at a halt at the morning rush, five minutes to Tesco, the hop to Wadhurst — not one bit of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the unburnt soot banks up.
The M25 stands under 25 miles from Mark Cross, Brighton and Hove under 25 miles away, and unless something pulls you out that way regularly, whole weeks go by without the long steady run that scours a DPF. Geography does not help.
DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode stops it
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode amounts to. The entire difficulty is that a long drive works by starting a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is capped.
So the standard advice to take it up the motorway is good advice, up until it stops being. Once the motor is in limp mode you are past that stage, and the filter wants a clean rather than more driving.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Mark Cross
On your drive, in a work car park, wherever the motor can stand for a while: the job is done with the filter yet fixed on, which is the bit most drivers do not see coming.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are eliminated. That involves a check first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a check of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated hardware.
Then the treatment. A solution goes in through the entry point on that motor and opens out inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. A second pass is sometimes called for on severely blocked filters.
A regeneration is next, driving off what the clean has freed. Ride along with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Mark Cross. Leave it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with running data read once it is done.
Finally the scan runs again — the change proven, the light reset, anything still showing logged. Both read-outs come to you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
Where treatment is not the answer
Treatment cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- the wrong reading from a pressure or temperature sensor
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- AdBlue system failures
- injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration completing in the first place
- oil working through the filter from a worn turbo
The first diagnostic is there for precisely that. When it proves to be one of those, you are told before any work begins rather than after you have settled up anything.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is cleaned where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
The cost of DPF cleaning in Mark Cross
The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that goes with it.
Once we have what you own, and roughly what the filter will want, the price gets settled over phone. A single price for everyone would not be truthful. What you run and where you are both shift it: Mark Cross itself, over at Danegate, or otherwise out in the TN postcode area.
Where the check says a clean will not help, you are not charged for cleaning. The call-out charge nonetheless stands, because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer heads back to Mark Cross.
I had a DPF related emergency on Wednesday morning, by lunchtime it was sorted. The technician was knowledgeable, professional and personable. The DPF filter was cleaned, faults cleared, and the car drove brilliantly afterwards. Many thanks.
Daz was a polite friendly engineer explained the process clearly. carried out the work confidently, so happy with the job so far.
Great experience, friendly and helpful. Stuck on holiday and no garages locally could help, gave these guys a call and within the hour Darren was there and had the problem sorted within a couple of hours!
What we clean, and how far we go around Mark Cross
Whatever it is — car, van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the very same call-out service applies, and the filter never leaves it.
Nearly every week there is by then someone on St Marks Mews, so Mark Cross hardly ever means a journey of its own, and Danegate, Rotherfield and the spots past Trulls Hatch follow. Farther out through East Sussex is even so worth a call — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that picks between today and tomorrow.

Questions Mark Cross drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it early enough and the vehicle has not dropped into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to Tesco and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
- How long does the visit last?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can take a second clean, which adds to that.
- The cost around Mark Cross — what is it?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that takes in the check and advice on what to do next. Quoting is done by phone, since what you drive and where you live both move the number.
- Have I got to be there?
- Space for the vehicle to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. Preferring to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the move, monitored.
- When can someone come to Mark Cross?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the diary. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the TN area has open.
- Is the filter lifted off the motor?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is done in place. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- The light reappears — then what?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Mark Cross.
