Marfleet, East Riding of Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Mobile DPF cleaning comes to the car. No workshop, no filter coming off. An engineer comes to your place over in Marfleet, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.

You'll be given a figure by phone before anyone departs, the clean starting from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.

The light is showing and the motor is short of power — that is how we normally find people, and what this page covers.

What to check when the DPF light comes on

First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. A scan happens before any cleaning, because that same dash light has a number of candidate faults behind it.

It tells what you manage with the motor between now and the booking.

  • Amber light, vehicle yet driving as normal — a long constant run can yet clear it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth attempting before you ring anything.
  • Once the car is in limp mode, a long run will not shift it. The window has closed.
  • Get it seen to rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.

The car has been showing you already

The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been mounting for a while:

  • power dropping away, above all climbing uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not pull as before
  • fuel economy getting worse
  • stop/start silently giving up
  • the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate

That is not evidence by itself. With the light beside them, the filter is a fair guess.

What clogs diesel particulate filters round Marfleet

Marfleet is a residential suburb, and the motoring that comes with one is the worst type for a DPF. The school run to Marfleet Primary Academy, Marfleet Lane at a standstill at half eight, ten minutes to Aldi, the dash to Hull — nothing of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. What should burn off stays behind.

The map does not oblige either. The M180 is under 15 miles from Marfleet and Kingston upon Hull is under 3 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that might clear the filter alone.

Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration

The vehicle is protecting itself, which is what limp mode is. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode prevents: power held down, revs kept low, no regeneration available.

The common advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, until it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are beyond that line, and the filter needs cleaning rather than more driving.

DPF cleaning at the motor across Marfleet

Most drivers do not anticipate this bit: the filter stays on. The job takes place with the DPF still fixed to the motor — on your front, in a work car park, any place the car can wait for a while.

A check comes first — live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by weight, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and related components, so other faults are eliminated before any of it is touched.

Next comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the vehicle's own access port, spreading inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration cannot. Where the filter is heavily loaded, expect a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Marfleet; if not, on the spot where the vehicle sits, with the running data verified after.

Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light put out, anything still outstanding noted. Both sets of figures come to you by email, so the numbers are kept.

The failures a DPF clean cannot answer

One thing is what a clean cures — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • temperature or pressure sensors showing a restriction that is not there
  • EGR valves that stick open
  • a problem in the AdBlue system
  • a regeneration that never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • turbo trouble, with oil reaching the filter

Which is why the scan comes first. If it turns out to be one of those, you are told before any work gets going rather than after you have handed over anything.

DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it cut out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth bearing in mind.

DPF cleaning charges around Marfleet

A clean opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.

Once we know what you own, and broadly what the filter will need, the price gets settled over phone. A single price for every job would not be straight. Whereabouts you are matters as much as what you drive: Marfleet itself, Sutton Ings nearby, or farther out across the HU postcode area.

If the scan rules cleaning out, there is not a penny to pay for it. What nonetheless stands is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the scan was run and the advice was passed on.

If the light returns inside that window, an engineer travels back out to Marfleet — the clean includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.

Quick and easy to book, arrived same day, not had an issue since the clean was complete (been a month now) - would recommend.

Where we get to around Marfleet, and what we clean

Whatever it is — estate, van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the very same call-out service holds, and the filter never quits it.

The same run that keeps our engineers on Marfleet Lane most weeks covers Marfleet, Sutton Ings, Neat Marsh and the places beyond Paull. It is the diary, not the distance, that settles whether it is one day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so phone anyway from further out across East Riding of Yorkshire.

What Marfleet drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough by itself?
Sometimes, if you spot it early and the motor has not slipped into limp mode. Ten minutes to Aldi and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for some time, will.
Does the visit take long?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly blocked filter can need cleaning twice, which runs on.
What does it come to around Marfleet?
Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the scan and advice on what to do next. Quoting is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both change the price.
Have I got to be there?
The motor needs a place for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. Ride along if you prefer, and the regeneration becomes a supervised drive.
Coming to Marfleet — how soon?
That hangs on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the HU area.
Does the filter come off the car?
It is done where it sits, on the on-site service. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything something we do either way.
The light comes back — then what?
Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Marfleet.
