Lyatts, Somerset: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the vehicle. Your motor will not be taken away and the filter doesn't come off. A technician comes at your door over in Lyatts, clears the diesel particulate filter still on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.
Reckon on the visit running typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, fixed on the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is on already and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we normally find people, and precisely what this page deals with.
The DPF light is on. What now?
It could not be the filter whatsoever. That is the first thing. A clean is not where a visit starts. A diagnostic is — plenty of faults appear as the same light.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then makes a difference.
- Car even now driving fine on an amber light — have a go at a long steady run first. It costs nothing and often shifts the filter without a visit.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- Stop planning long drives and get it checked if the cabin smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
The car has been showing you already
Symptoms have usually been building for a while before the light ever appears. Late news, in other words:
- less power, particularly pulling uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they used to
- economy that is worse than it was
- quietly, the stop/start bows out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the box
That is not conclusive on its own. Next to the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.
What clogs diesel particulate filters round Lyatts
Lyatts is a rural hamlet, and the motoring that goes with one is the least kind type for a DPF. A regeneration wants the time and heat, and gets neither: not on the school run to West Coker CofE VC Primary School, not on Lyatts Hill at half eight, not on a few minutes to Morrisons, and not on the hop to Yeovil Junction. What should burn off stays put.
Unless you have a standing cause to head out to the M5, under 25 miles from Lyatts, or out to Wells under 25 miles away, entire weeks pass without a long unbroken stint. Geography is against you.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
What limp mode means is the motor looking after itself. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter needs can never run — which is the whole problem, because a sustained drive works by setting off that regeneration.
So the common advice to get it up the motorway is good advice, up until it is not. The far side of that line — limp mode — more driving will not do it, and the filter requires a clean.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the motor stands across Lyatts
Nothing is taken from the car. That throws people. The DPF sits fixed where it is and the work happens around it, on a drive, in a works car park, wherever it can sit for a few hours.
The ECU is read first, showing soot load by percent and by actual weight, along with a review of sensor readings, glow plugs and related components, so nothing is touched while another fault is still in play.
Then comes the clean itself: solution in through the car's own access point, opening out inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration never can. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to require doing twice.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has loosened. Come with the car and it is done as a monitored drive out of Lyatts. Leave it and the regeneration is done in place, with live data checked once it is done.
A second check proves the change, clears the warning light and notes anything still showing. Both sets of figures are emailed, so you have the before and after figures to hand.
What a DPF clean will not touch
Cleaning fixes one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- pressure sensors flagging a block that is not there
- EGR valves that stick open
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration starting at all
- turbo failure, with oil entering the filter
That is what the first check is for. When one of those proves the fault, you find out about it in advance rather than once the money has changed hands altogether.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no remedy. What gets looked up as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your filter is treated in place and goes back into work.
DPF cleaning charges across Lyatts
Every visit attracts a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, running the check and giving the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
The number is settled by the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be straight. What you own and where you are both change it: Lyatts itself, across at Hardington Moor, or farther out across the BA postcode area.
A clean that will not do it is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless applies.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to Lyatts.
Your engineer Attila was a delight to meet, friendly and courteous. He explained every step and showed me all relevant information during the procedure. Highly recommended.
The DPF engineer resolved the Exhaust filter issues with our vehicle. He was very efficient and explained the process and what was happening as well as recommendations on how to avoid future problems. Excellent service.
The engineer who came (Daz) was very efficient explained the whole process to me. It was clear he had a great deal of experience on dpf problems and their resolutions. Job well done.
What we clean, and how far we reach round Lyatts
Whatever it is — estate, light van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the one call-out service holds, and the filter never leaves it.
Our engineers are along Lyatts Hill most weeks, so Lyatts is seldom a journey of its own, and the same run takes in Hardington Moor, Holywell and the places out past Hardington Mandeville. It is the calendar, not the distance, that picks whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring even from even further out through Somerset.

Questions Lyatts drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- If you get it in time, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. It takes a sustained run at motorway speed, not ten minutes to Morrisons and back.
- The visit runs how long?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is heavily loaded.
- The cost in Lyatts — what is it?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for coming out that pays for the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
- Do I have to be there?
- The vehicle needs a place for two hours or so. You need not be in it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive instead.
- Can someone travel to Lyatts soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the calendar. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is open across the BA area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- It is cleaned where it sits, on the call-out service. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- What if the light comes back?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Lyatts.
