Signs the motor has been sending you
By the time the light shows, things have usually been going wrong for some time. It is late news:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they used to
- fuel economy turning worse
- stop/start quietly bowing out
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under hard acceleration
Any one of those, taken singly, is not conclusive. It is a fair guess the filter is blocked once the light is on as well.
