Mobile DPF Cleaning for Lower Town, Pembrokeshire
On-site DPF cleaning goes to the motor. An engineer turns up at your address across Lower Town, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
You'll be given a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
The light is on already and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we usually meet people, and roughly what this page covers.
What to try when the DPF light is on
It may not be the DPF at all. That is the first thing. Treatment is not where a visit begins. A scan is — plenty of faults register as the same signal.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then makes a difference.
- A long steady run may even now do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes as normal. Costs nothing at all, so attempt that before ringing.
- Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it seen to if the interior smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
Before the light, what the car was telling you
By the time the light arrives, things have normally been slipping for some time. It is last news:
- dropping away on power, above all uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- the fuel use is worse
- without a word, the stop/start packs in
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under hard acceleration
By itself, none of that is evidence. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is there too.
The reason diesel particulate filters choke around Lower Town
Being a residential suburb, Lower Town throws up precisely the motoring a DPF copes with least well. Run through a typical week: the local primary school and home, Old Newport Road at a standstill before the hour, a five-minute run to Co-op Food, a dash to Fishguard & Goodwick. Not much there runs long enough or runs hot enough to finish a regeneration. Instead of burning away, the soot load banks up.
The M4 sits under 50 miles from Lower Town, St Davids under 15 miles away, and unless something takes you out that way regularly, full weeks pass without the sustained run that clears a filter. Geography does not assist.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer run
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode means. The real catch is that a sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is capped.
So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, right until it stops being. Past that point — limp mode — driving will not manage it, and the filter wants cleaning.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Lower Town
The filter does not come off. That is the part most drivers do not expect: the job takes place with the DPF still fixed to the vehicle, on your drive, in a work car park, any place the motor can wait for a couple of hours.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are cleared. That requires a check first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and connected components.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never move are freed after that, by a cleaning solution passed through the access port on that motor, which spreads inside the filter. Where the filter is badly clogged, plan on a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has lifted. Come with the car and it becomes a monitored drive out of Lower Town. Drop it and the regeneration runs statically, with live data verified once it is done.
A second check verifies the change, clears the warning light and lists anything still showing. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you have the before and after figures on record.
Where a clean is not the solution
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- the wrong signal from a temperature sensor
- the EGR valve held open
- an AdBlue system failure
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever runs
- oil working through the filter from a worn turbo
The first diagnostic is there for exactly that. When one of those is the fault, you hear about it in advance rather than once the money has gone for good.
A couple more worth knowing. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your existing filter is treated in place and sent back into use.
Figures for DPF cleaning in Lower Town
Every visit carries a call-out charge — getting to you, making the booking, doing the scan and passing on the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
No single flat rate would be straight, so the price is fixed on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. Two separate things change it: what you run, and where you are — Lower Town itself, out at Penyraber, or further out within the SA postcode area.
You are not charged for treatment that the diagnostic says will not work. What even so stands is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the check was run and the advice was given.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Lower Town.
Liam did a great job at both explaining the process and carrying out the clean. Car feels so much better now! Many thanks.
Fantastic service, came within 3 hours, Igor is a very knowledgeable polite mechanic. The car runs like a dream. Thank you.
Great experience, friendly and helpful. Stuck on holiday and no garages locally could help, gave these guys a call and within the hour Darren was there and had the problem sorted within a couple of hours!
What we clean, and how far we travel near Lower Town
The filter is treated where it sits on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.
The same run that keeps technicians on Old Newport Road most weeks takes in Lower Town, Penyraber, Dyffryn and the places beyond Fishguard. Coverage is UK-wide, so further out across Pembrokeshire is nonetheless worth a call, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Questions Lower Town drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I merely take it for a long drive?
- If you get it early enough, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. Ten minutes to Co-op Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for a while, will.
- Broadly how long does it run?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — severely clogged filters sometimes take a second pass, which extends it.
- The cost in Lower Town — what is it?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; cleaning itself opens from £299. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we quote on the phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- The motor wants a place for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. The regeneration can be run as a monitored drive if you would sooner be there.
- Can someone get to Lower Town soon?
- You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the diary. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is free across the SA area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Treated where it is, on this service, so no. Nor does getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Lower Town.
