Lower Solva, Pembrokeshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Treating the DPF happens at the vehicle, not at a garage. Your vehicle is not taken away and the filter does not leave it. An engineer comes at your door in Lower Solva, treats the diesel particulate filter on the car and runs a DPF regeneration.
Budget for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, fixed on the phone before anyone sets off.
If the light is on already and the motor is short of power, this page is yours. That is how most people get to us.
DPF light on? What comes next
It could not be the DPF in the end. That is the opening thing. A clean is not where a visit begins. A check is — plenty of faults register as the same signal.
It counts what you get with the car between now and the booking.
- Amber light, motor even now driving fine — a long even run can even now clear it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you book anything.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, driving will not shift it. The window has shut.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.
Before the light, what the vehicle was showing you
By the time the light arrives, things have normally been slipping for a while. It is late news:
- falling off on power, particularly uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- fuel use that is worse than before
- stop/start silently giving up
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. With the light beside them, the filter is a fair bet.
Clogged diesel particulate filters around Lower Solva, and the cause
For a DPF, the poorest driving is the sort you get in a residential suburb such as Lower Solva. Run through a normal week: the local primary school and home, Main Street at a crawl before the hour, a five-minute run to Bay View Stores, a dash to Haverfordwest. None of it there runs long enough or is hot enough to complete a regeneration. What should burn off stays behind.
The map does not help either. The M4 is under 50 miles from Lower Solva and St Davids is under 5 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, whole weeks go by without the long unbroken run that would empty the filter on its own.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode means. Pulling power is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can not run — which is the entire problem, because a proper drive works by starting that regeneration.
So the common advice to run it up the motorway is good advice, right until it stops being. Once the motor is in limp mode you are past that point, and the filter needs cleaning rather than driving.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated across Lower Solva
The filter does not budge. That is the part most owners do not anticipate: the job happens with the DPF still fitted to the motor, on your front, in a work car park, any place the car can sit for a couple of hours.
Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That means a check first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related components.
A cleaning solution next is injected through the entry point on that motor, spreading inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to take doing twice.
A regeneration follows, driving off what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Lower Solva if you are present, or a static regeneration where the vehicle waits, with the running data verified once done.
A second diagnostic verifies the change, puts out the warning light and lists anything still showing. Both sets of figures are emailed, so you keep the before and after figures to hand.
What a DPF clean will not fix
Only one fault is fixed by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does little for:
- the wrong reading from a temperature or pressure sensor
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's job. If one of those proves the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has gone already.
A couple more worth bearing in mind. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a solution — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your original filter is cleaned in place and put back into use.
Prices for DPF cleaning across Lower Solva
Each visit carries a call-out charge — coming out to you, making the booking, carrying out the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
Once we are told what you own, and about what the filter will take, the price gets agreed by phone. A single price for everyone would not be honest. What you run and where you are both shift it: Lower Solva itself, across at Solva, or further out within the SA postcode area.
Where the check says cleaning will not do it, you are not charged for treatment. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge still applies.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer comes back to Lower Solva.

What we clean, and how far we go round Lower Solva
Cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, farm vehicles — a single call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done in place rather than taken anywhere.
Our engineers are along Main Street week in week out, so Lower Solva is seldom a special trip, and the same run takes in Solva, Upper Solva and the villages out past Brawdy. Farther out through Pembrokeshire is nonetheless worth phoning about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that settles between one day and the next.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning in Lower Solva
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- If you spot it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. That means motorway speed for a long stretch, rather than a quick trip to Bay View Stores.
- How long does the visit last?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — badly loaded filters sometimes need a second pass, which lengthens it.
- Cost across Lower Solva — what is it?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the check and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you own and where you live both shift the figure.
- Have I got to be around?
- You need not stand with it — the motor just needs space to sit for a couple of hours. Travel along if you would rather, and the regeneration is done as a monitored drive.
- When can someone come to Lower Solva?
- That comes down to the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is available across the SA area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- On the call-out service, no: the filter is done in place. Lifting a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything work we do either way.
- The light returns — then what?
- Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Lower Solva.
